Laura grew up with her grandfather due to the fact her father murdered her mother during a bad alcoholic episode that left her with a scar on her shoulder from a broken beer bottle her father cut her with, after she told her father to stop hurting her mother. Due to this traumatic experience Laura decided to stop talking unless she had to or trusted the person, making her selectively mute.
