He is not understimating the situation. The worry someone could attack the southern territories is strong, it keeps troubling him. The arrival of yet another after the two savages, that do not belong to them, worsen things.

He keeps his eyes narrowed, looking at Khun in a deadly serious expression.
Khun looks very troubled and doesn't get close to the bars. He avoids his gaze.

Shige hits the bars, making the other jump. "I have had enough of your sh*t. All your lies! You started planning this since when you got 'kidnapped' didn't you?" He looks at Khun, so full of hate and anger. "Answer, Xiaozhen teamed up with Zhae and Youling or you acted by yourself?" He pressures Khun with more fear, it is starting to become like a torture. Xiaozhen signed his treaty and they were always good allies, so he hopes they have nothing to do with it.
Khun curls up on the ground, holding his head. He is in such pain. He starts to pant too but Shige doesn't change attitude regardless how pitiful he looks. "By...myself...by myself only..."
Shige pressures him less at his answer. "Why?" The worst part of it is that he was in love with Khun, he feels extremely hurt.
"Forgive me! I did wrong, I'll make it up to you!"
Shige clenches his fist. "There is no way." He turns around, intending to leave. "I'm sending a messanger to Xiaozhen. Hope they'll take you back, because it is your only chance." To live. And he was even too merciful, but he does it more for the alliance with Xiaozhen than else.

They definitely were not just cats to him, he is mourning. He put their ashes inside a cat shaped vase, placing it on a furniture. He remains by it for some time, before to decide to head to bed.
