In this world we are all haunted by the disastrous and horrid pasts of our town and ours Lives, but thanks to joy we don’t have to remember those bad bad memories… but what if we didn’t want to forget them? What if blocking those memories started doing more harm then good? Our muses become “downers” (people who refuse to take joy) and must find the answers to questions of a pasts left unanswered. The people of Wellington wells don’t take too kindly to downers, they tend to get violent when they find downers, but our muses will have to find a way to sneak around and stay out of trouble and eventually escape from the town… before it’s too late!

Our characters are from a small settlement rebuilding in the world after a nuclear war that almost ended humanity, we’ve revitalized some of the earth but much work is still needed to be done, and strong leaders must be put into power. Our settlements population is just barley over 100 people and everyone knows almost everyone, we’re graduating from highschool and are awaiting to see who in the class gets selected to attend the testing. A series of test to determine if students are smart enough to go the the United commonwealths university where students studies the most important fields, government, education, medicine, or engineering. Our characters are polar opposites and have never really been close but still have seen and know each other for most of our lives, will being selected for the testing and the challenges it’s brings draw us closer together? Or will it tear us away from each other ? Do we have what it takes? Let’s find out!

Xavier awoke in the sh*tty run down apartment the settlement was built around. Hard to believe a one star apartment like this would be a luxury in the apocalypse. He rubbed his eyes and rose from his bed slowly pulling on a pair of his black joggers and slid into his work boots, walking over to his 4th story window that gave him an over look of half the settlement. ‘Foundation’ more like crumbing sh*thole, he thought to himself rolling his eyes. He continued to complain to himself knowing damn well he loved this sh*t hole and he’d die before letting any of the creatures of the outside world hurt the people here. He strapped on his Plate carrier and pulled on his thick flannel jacket opening the door feeling the freezing cold air on his face.” Winter. F***ing. Sucks.” He muttered to himself starting his descent down the stairs to the ground floor. He greeted the neighbors as they came out grabbing the mail, for a second he forgot about how the world had ended, he forgot how deadly the world had became. An old Russian man with a heavy accent waited with two rifles slung over his shoulder, and two holstered handguns on his thighs.
“Ah Xavier you’re early today, what’s the special occasion!?” The Russian man greeted Ex Xavier with a firm handshake.
“Couldn’t sleep dimitri. Too much on my mind.” Xavier took his rifle and handgun from dimitri slinging the rifle over his shoulder and bolstering the handgun.
“Ah well Atleast we have a shorter watch shift today! The new recruits start duty, hopefully they don’t die as quick as the previous ones” that made Xavier chuckle.
“It’s not there fault they couldn’t shoot for sh*t. These creatures are becoming harder to kill the longer their staying feral” dimitri nodded his face serious.
“Hopefully these new rifles we found will help do the trick eh!?” Xavier nodded and started to think to himself following the Russian man to the settlements defense wall. These creatures… they’re getting smarter and stronger… the virus, it’s starting to spread from more then just animals. From what we’ve been able to gather it’s a highly mutated form of rabies. Xavier thought to himself trailing off as they reached the ladder climb to the guard tower they were positioned at. At the top he took his seat with dimitri and a young man he didn’t recognize.

“Hey kid, I’m Xavier, you must be one of the rookies huh? You look like you can hold your own Atleast that’s something” the rook stood up and saluted the men quickly

“Sir yes sir, my name is Benjamin sir but my friends call me ben!” The eager kid seemed as if he were meeting his role model which little did Xavier know, he was. “Hey I know you sir they teach about you in training! They said you took on 15 freaks all on your own and killed them with out a scratch is that true?!” Xavier chuckled and took his seat next to ben.

“True it is, maybe I’ll tell you the story first hand sometime, but right now we gotta make sure the ferals don’t come near alright?” Xavier gripped his rifle using the scope to scout the area around them.

“Sir yes sir-… s-sir what’s that coming around the b-building at the I-intersection?” Xavier looked at him puzzled as both he and dimitri quickly aimed their rifles at where ben was pointing when their jaws dropped. A rotten, fly covered, infected feral lion stood in the intersection just a few hundred yards from the front gate of the settlement.

“Dimitri call this sh*t in to command. Let them know we got a new species on the list of possible infections.” And with that a loud shot rang out from xaviers rifle, piercing the lion right between the eyes. That’s when he noticed it. The lion didn’t even flinched and stared right at him.

“Dimitri help me take this thing down now.” Xavier said calmly trying not to over thinking the bullet that clearly pierced the lions skull

“With pleasure mr Xavier!” The both of them fire bullets into the lions legs crippling it forcing it to fall with a weighted strong thud that could’ve made the earth quake.

“uh Mr Xavier, you might wanna take a look at this” Benjamin waved him over moving the lions mane which showed clear markings, an insignia of sorts. What the hell could it be? Xavier looked at the markings with dimitri both of them remained puzzled as a team of scientists came to detain the freak and take it back to the labs for testing.

“Doesn’t sit right with me Demi, all these new freaks. At first it was just dogs, cats, humans, and other smaller creatures. Now it’s spreading to bears, cougars, and now a god damn lion? what the hell was the symbol under its mane? What if it has something to do with the influx of new strong freaks? I mean I shot that cat in head and it didn’t die” Xavier turned to dimitri rubbing his brow


“That could be a possibility sir I bet the scientists will find out what the symbol means, In the mean time we should get back to our post, make sure bens getting all the right bits of advice yeah?”
