Morrigan Cooper

There isn't much known about the past of Morrigan Cooper, putting her skills in stealth and lockpicking to avoid and outwit the threats that lined The Gauntlet, leading her to the arena where she came to be the next combatant to go up against Overboss Colter. With the help of the mysterious voice soon to be revealed as Porter Gage and the surprisingly effective efficiency of a super-soaker, Morrigan was able to prevail with slashes, stabs, and a whole heap of frag grenades! Might seem foolish to deal in death when your weapon of choice is a jagged hunk of metal, but if you're going to kill someone, it might as well be up close and personal!

As much as it might seem like she would be a fan of The Disciples, Morrigan almost instantly began to butt heads and challenge the deadly dealers, maybe being a part of The Gauntlet didn't help.. When it came to claiming every lay of the land in the park, The Disciples, being the last to be given a plot to settle, were given the smallest corner she could shove them into. There were little threats to stop her from fighting them on every front, and when push came to shove The Pack and The Operators were right at her back to shove right back. Though the claim of the park was little.. There was a whole Commonwealth out there to claim, and she would not cower in her castle as Colter had done before her.. The dreams that had long been laid to dust rose free as the future of Nuka World grew brighter than the radiant luster of power that was returned.

'Converting the Commonwealth'

As the gang war inside the walls of Nuka World came to a close with the death of Nisha and the removal of the rest of The Disciples was carried out, there came to be a new question.. Where would we go from there? There is a whole wide Commonwealth beyond those walls and a land even further beyond that one- So why stop and stay here..? Let all of the Wastelands learn the name!

"So here's a little something for you... If you haven't heard, we're taking this show on the road! Oh yeah, you heard me! Gone are the days of sitting around on our asses while everything goes to sh*t... The Overboss is gonna make sure the whole damn Commonwealth knows who we are! Now that Nuka-World is ours, we're branching out, taking over some of those sh*t-heap settlements in the Commonwealth, turning them into something better! If you haven't gotten in on this action yet, there's still time - the boss ain't done yet! Talk to your gang leaders about what YOU can do to help!" - RedEye 'Raider Radio'

Settlements were nothing serious to settle in at, especially when armed with a pocket full of caps. What's that? Bribery?? Yes, but if bleeding out those that have survived the raiders and the radiation can be avoided, then she would rather put out a few caps to get them to go on their merry way. What? She isn't evil, she runs a business, not a battle royal. But if bloodshed can't be avoided she has no qualms about putting a person in their place. As it stands she has yet to lay a finger on Sanctuary Hills, but less so out of taking on the challenge and more so it seems so that there is still a safe place for settlers to wander to. Sure, she is a softy, but push the matter and you're going to learn how she/he became the Overboss to begin with. They can be left in peace, but the rest of the wastes is going to need to learn to move on and move along.

Dying

Yes, to those it may concern, Morrigan is quite sick and is very much dying.

"Well- isn't everyone dying?" Yes. Morrigan is just speed racing the game of life. What's wrong with Morrigan? Let's just say no amount of RadAway is going to save those lungs of hers from flooding with globs of blood and bodily fluids until she eventually kicks the bucket and chokes on the irony aftertaste of her collapsing existence.

Should she be taking all those Chems while she has this issue?
No, probably not. But she does have a great deal of discomfort going on within the region of her diaphragm, so could you really blame her for getting high every now and then? Not to mention the practical Kingdom of Raiders she rules over can really stretch out the nerves and grind down her patience..

Speaking of that Kingdom of Raiders.. Do they know Morrigan is dying? Not yet and she prefers to keep it that way. The less of them know she is sick, the longer she may rein.

And finally.. Is there a cure? Well- Considering her lungs are completely shot and could likely be reduced to wet tissue paper if she coughs one time too hard one of these days.. There is no obvious cure in the Wastelands. However! That is not to say there can't be a less then common cure! Such as..? Well the most helpful and yet the most risky of operations would be a complete transplant. Which would likely tack on a good amount of years to the Crusader! However, it would take a great deal of technology that she just doesn't have on hand..

THE TRUTH IF HER CONDITION

Morrigan can't remember much of her life before being sick, though Morrigan has been sick for quite a few years, maybe around two decades give or take. Morrigan was a part of the FEV experimentation inside of the Institute, though instead of being kept down in the facility like the other experiments, Morrigan would be tested above ground to test the effects of the FEV on a test subject when radiation and genetic damage are thrown into the mix. It was learned that when the FEV is administered through radiation on an 'imperfect' specimen the results are quite negative, but in her case the effects of it are thankfully slow. Given how unpredictable the FEV was, there was no telling what it could of done out in an unstable environment, instead of repairing and correcting damage, it's acting in reverse and has set upon its corrupted function of shutting down her organs and slowly killing her. Discovering that the experiment was slow taking the Institute left Morrigan to live above ground where she will be monitored from a distance until the day they die.

This started their path to becoming the Overboss, a blind hatred for the Institute and knowing now that time is limited resulted in the desire to overpower and overcome, and while she knows there likely isn't no cure for the condition, she hasn't lost hope for it and wishes to watch the downfall of the Institute perhaps more then Elder Maxson does, but for woefully different reasons. Holding no ill will towards synths as they cannot help what they are or what they are made to become leaving her both in support of the Brotherhood of Steel and The Railroad.

So when Morrigan says she took a dip in a radioactive puddle or that she just didn't take RadAway in time- She is lying. However, when she tells you she didn't come from a Vault and that she really did find that PipBoy, she isn't lying, but she doesn't want to talk about where she came from.

Could the serum Virgil created cure her? Hard to say given they had different reactions to the FEV and were administered it in different ways, but it is always worth a shot asking if he could make more.

WHY DOES SHE HAVE A PIPBOY?

If asked if they lived in a Vault, Morrigan will tell you no. They do not claim to be the original owner of said PipBoy and will claim to have found the device on a deceased Vault Dweller, using it to keep track of documents and notes as well as using it to accurately get to where she needs to go using the GPS system the device is equipped with. The radio never hurts to use either..

Alternate Starts

Young Morrigan: Morrigan is around her early twenties to early thirties, roaming the wastes. She would not be the Overboss of Nuka World and thus this leaves her open for having her life guided in different ways that don't involve becoming the Overboss. Morrigan can have her hatred for the Institute push her towards the Brotherhood or The Railroad, one of course being a more extreme option than the other. Morrigan would still be sick and would steadily progress through her ailment as time passes. During this stage in her life she is blinded by her hatred and bitterness for the foul hand played to her. While she would be more open to the Brotherhood by this point, joining the Railroad probably wouldn't bother Morrigan either, taking synths away from the institute and inconveniencing the facility is definitely more mild.

Sole Survivor: Morrigan can be played as the Sole Survivor, this means that Morrigan is from Vault 111 and has traveled the wastes in search of anyone who can help her save her son Shaun. This can take part in any time of her journey and at any selectable age, be her younger or older. Morrigan can be led down different paths and can also still be sick for this as well, it would just be a different type of illness though clearly not necessary.

Project Cobalt

Project Cobalt was a military chemical and weapons program, as head of the Beverageers, Rex Meacham headed the research and development of Project Cobalt, and put his entire team on the project regardless of their wishes. His team was successful in finding a custom isotope potentially fit for the military's needs after only seven months. The custom isotope, codenamed "Quantum," was based on strontium-90, and could be used to weaponize nearly anything in the military's arsenal, and even enhanced a suit of X-01 power armor using the compound as a proof of concept.

More specifically, the glowing blue compound could store incoming energy on armor as well as amplify the default energy of munitions. The team even went so far as to make a prototype Quantum derivative of the mini nuke launched from a specialized catapult.

It was not until shortly after the Great War that Meacham finally completed a perfectly stable weaponization of Quantum. However, this was at the loss of all of his colleagues; due to delusions of grandeur, the stress of being locked in a bunker for an indeterminate amount of time, and what Meacham saw as "treason" for refusing to continue the project, the other Beverageers either committed suicide or were murdered by Meacham.

Meacham also suggested that the compound could be used in a new line of soft drinks; Nuka-Cola Quantum was the result, and would actually luminesce longer than the previously released Nuka-Cola Quartz and Victory. However, the soft drink remained radioactive.

The Nuka-Cola bottling facility in Arlington, Virginia provided the Beverageers with live subjects to test the soft drink; the first few trials of the soft drinks were ultimately fatal (at least 62 test subjects died as a result of organ failure, with many more hospitalized with radiation burns), but isotope CE774 only resulted in some dizziness and other mild side effects, and a new flavor was born. All Bradberton had to do was have taste-testers sign health damage waivers and send them a Nuka condolences fruit and cheese basket afterward to avoid any litigation, and then wait for the profits to roll in.

Even before the completion of the development phase, however, the bottling plant at Nuka-World geared up in anticipation to begin mass production of Nuka-Cola Quantum. They even went as far as to both dye the river ride in the World of Refreshment a fluorescent blue and even promote it as a safe beverage to the actors manning the ride. The Beverageers themselves even went so far as to tell the actors that if they were feeling a little low on energy, that they could drink the Quantum right out of the river, and that this new Nuka-Cola is so packed full of energy that it kills any bacteria it touches.
