A Mother's Love

Note: This isn’t so much a story as I just wanted to write out Wanda’s transition into motherhood. Enjoy!

Wanda had always admired what her mother did for her and Pietro. The sacrifices she made. How she always wanted them to take part in something regardless of the cost. Each month they scraped by and even though Wanda and Pietro had both said they could stop their extracurriculars to give the household more money, Natalya Maximoff was adamant that her dancing and his participation in track and field was a necessity, not a luxury.

Wanda never thought she would be able to be as good as her mother, not even able to do half of what she did for her and her brother.

Yet here she was, with twins of her own. Ever since their birth, she had gotten an even deeper appreciation for her. She just wished she could be there to see them.

Billy and Tommy were polar opposites of each other: while she was able to quickly take care of Tommy and soothe him if he started to cry, Billy, however, took sometimes hours.

She was so glad she had help. Donovan, of course, was around a lot, but he also had work and some days he was tired from a long day. Rogue, Wandapool, and a few other of her mutant friends also dropped by from time to time. And while she and her father didn’t always see eye-to-eye, she was glad that he came to visit, sometimes shooing her off to get some rest and take care of herself when he saw that she looked particularly bedraggled, taking over care for the twins.

But despite the many sleepless nights, the inability to now have a meal without any kind of interruptions, and how her household had become utter chaos, she wouldn’t have it any other way.

She loved the twins with all her heart and then some. Some of her sweetest moments would be when they clung to her and would give her tiny hugs, grabbing her finger with their small hands, and her favorite one was one she wasn’t even awake for; Donovan had come home from the office early to try to surprise Wanda but walked in to see her asleep on the couch, both Billy and Tommy fast asleep on her.

She had wondered when she woke up where the blanket had come from.

And he surprised her by presenting the picture he had taken of the three of them as the opening picture of a new photo album to store that and all the other memories that were being recorded inside.

While the twins weren’t old enough yet to start doing things for fun, she was already making sure that money was being put aside for just those things. She wanted to follow in her mother’s footsteps, having the mindset of doing something for fun wasn’t just for when they could afford it but was something that was necessary for life.

She was thankful to be in a position where she was Avenging and teaching at the X-Mansion, both of those being decent pay. She was on maternity leave at the moment but it didn’t stop the others from seeing how things were doing or vice versa.

At first, it was a surprise whenever their father showed up. But she would just put on a mask and just endure whatever Gabriel was going to say to her. If he wasn’t criticizing the condition of the house, it was how she needed to take better care of herself or how on Chandilar, they would be taken so much better care of.

That kind of talk got her so stressed out to the point that if she knew he was coming, she would message someone--most of the time Rogue because he seemed to listen to her the most--to be at the house with her when he arrived, just to have some kind of support with her.

There were times when the two butted heads such as when he wanted to take Billy from her but so far, everything had been resolved without conflict. She was dreading when it would come time for the twins to be put into school: she wanted them at the X-Mansion but he made it clear he didn’t like Earth schools or at least didn’t trust them.

But that would be a later hurdle.

For now, Wanda was quite content with her two bundles of love.

And she wouldn’t have it any other way.
