Resist Ignition

Before reading, I want to make this clear: this isn't a short story regarding Wanda's past. I asked earlier if you would be interested in reading my short stories even though they aren't Marvel themed. It was unanimous so is my first short story. If you guys enjoy it, I'll share more of my writing! I will also give you the prompt as this was from my science fiction writing course.
Prompt: Create the opening of a novel where you introduce two unique things. (In here, that is the steer and the Ignition Chair.) Also, there is no exposition (world building) allowed. Assume that this is a world where the reader knows everything.

“Run, run, as fast as you can, little girl! You can’t escape!”

The cackling that followed sent chills down Ana’s spine as she bolted down a hallway. She skidded around a corner, using the wall she slid into to push off and propel her forward. Her breathing was labored and sweat caused her auburn hair to stick to her forehead.

A sudden shock from inside her mind caused her to lose her footing and she collapsed to the ground with a cry of pain. She curled up into a tight ball, her body shaking from the steer that they had placed in her head. She cursed in every language she knew, tears streaming down her face. Why had she ever thought this was a good idea? Why did she let Mateo talk her into this? She heard footsteps but her head was pounding now from the attack. She couldn’t even lift it up as a rough hand closed around her upper arm and she was yanked to her feet.

Feebly, she tried to push her captor away but her attempts were just a mere annoyance to him as she was dragged back to the experiment room. She was forced to sit back down in the Ignition Chair.

Unlike before, Ana had no energy to fight the agents that strapped her wrists and ankles down to keep her from escaping.

Her head slowly turned to the other chair like hers in the room that had a man who looked similar to her in appearance. She groaned, “Mateo.”

Mateo was unresponsive, his eyes closed. She couldn’t tell if he was breathing or not. He wasn’t moving from what she could tell.

Her chair was powered up by the scientist who had called out to her before, a wicked grin on his face. He cackled again. “Now, now, princess, sit back and relax. This will only hurt a lot.”

Ana’s breath quickened as she looked straight forward again, hearing the hum of the chair. The helmet on the chair lowered down onto her head. “No. No! NO!” She screamed as it made a perfect fit, molded to just her body. Hot tears burnt her eyes as electricity crackled in the air and she felt her body convulsing. She cried out in agony as the currents shot through every inch of her. Faintly, she heard voices but she couldn’t make out what they said. The only thing she could focus on was the pain that caused her vision to darken around the corners, steadily creeping further and further into sight.

Right before it was completely taken over, she thought she heard the sound of her brother suddenly waking and screaming her name. A single thought crossed her mind in its final moments of consciousness.

Mateo.
