Of noble birth, Jareth was once a free spirit who chose to roam the vastness of the Underground with his lover, Mizumi, the beautiful Queen of Moraine. However, upon discovering a peculiar race of beings known as ‘goblins’, Jareth decided to rule over the strange creatures, distancing himself from Mizumi and ultimately infuriating her. Tiring of the woman’s infatuation and constant attempts to rekindle their old flame, the young fae told her he would only remain with her if she could find his heart, which he had hidden in his newly-created Labyrinth. Mizumi failed the task, and lost him.

Jareth’s labyrinth, however, was of great interest to the Seelie Court whom decided to honour the now heartless Jareth with his own title if he would perform a great service to his people. He accepted, and thus his Labyrinth became a construct through which he now performs his promise to the Seelie Court. Known through history by many names such as the Boogeyman, The Pied Piper, Sack Man, Babay, the Erlking and more, Jareth greatly aids in the Leanan Sídhe’s depleting race by challenging humans to their children and submitting them to his Labyrinth.
