Wasn't it easier to simply play-pretend? To make up any amount of a story that would fit whatever need arose?

All of his childhood stories seemed to be tragic, covered in blood and sorrow; it didn't seem to matter which corner of memory he turned, Aleksi would find something uncomfortable, ugly. The few that were comfortable--warm, even--were tainted by pain, rage, and revenge.

Did it really matter? His life?

Was it really so important for him to learn the truth of his existence? For him to uncover the depths of loss and betrayal that laced through every legend ever told of his family, of his bloodline?

What would happen if he decided instead to simply just disappear, never to return?

He's on the run with no one to turn to.
