Back in 2016 during the fatal blow dealt to Safeguard by Vigilant and their star of the show, Flamma. Funders and authorities had raised an eyebrow in concern in regards of the so-called "Vitesse Freelancer" and began to doubt her ability to take on global threats. It seemed as if investing into some young girl with animalistic abilities were not as expected. Safeguard needed something far more stronger than Aoba. Sure, she was efficient and got the job done. Aoba was also the public icon for their corporation. But, theres a difference between having a hero icon and having an actual hero.
In 2018, Project "Patient Zero" was underway. This project was a series of multiple smaller projects that focused on augmenting humans' DNA with Valka's AES and a series of chemical or viral compounds.
During selection, Safeguard didn't use clones. But instead, they sought after pure bred children. These subjects were taken from foster homes, homeless shelters, and simply those with no past or family. In return, Safeguard would be their family and home.
Among these children, the fourth oldest, who was named Subject "67B" was a bit of an oddball of the bunch. She'd often be alone. Eating alone. Playing alone. She'd never show up to any learning exercises which lead to her inability to read or write. When some tried to communicate to her, she'd always have something morbid to say. As if she were well aware of Safeguard's intentions.
Dr. Caleb Forest, Valka Stelkova, and Nero Ludwig all took interest into 67B's social oddities and decided to scan her neural patterns. Turns out, the patterns in her mind showed that she was voided of most of her expressions. And so the three scientists invested their time into her.
For eight months, 67B would undergo hellish experiments. Being tested with all kinds of bacteria, viral infections, and chemical compounds. Her DNA and blood was often extracted. So much to a point that she would be on the edge of death due to lack if blood or dehydration on multiple occasions. But after the fifth month, a strange occurrence happened within 67B's bloodstream. She was not affected by a large dosage of Sulfuric acid. Nor did she get sick from two dosages each of Pencilium and Aspergillus. It all seemed to have dissolved in her body somehow. The scientists postponed all bodily injections and began to study her.
67B began to undergo Neural tampering. Nero Ludwig, the Neurological Specialist had attempted to sever connections to the rest of the girl's emotions in order to make her into a killer. But oddly enough, after each severance, her nerves would reattach using spores that developed in her brain. Also, during nighttime, researchers documented 67B's sleeping. As spores started to spread throughout the children's personal quarters. It became a problem. Night after night, the mold would spread further away. Eventually, one night her spores reach into the beds of five other subjects and its corrosive ate away at their skin. In the morning, their flesh was melted and covered with black spores.
67B was seen as a monster to the other children. But to Safeguard, this was an unexpected major success. Eight months passed. It was time to start physically testing 67B. She was put to tests of witts, combat, and agility. This training would last for 10 years.
Over the decade, many of the children had died off. Each of them due to being infected with corrosive spores. Only five remained. 67B being one if them. Who was now named Spore due to her ability to control the Bacterial-chemical compound that they have named Effluvium. She hated this ability. She felt as if she were being turned into a monster. But it was way too late for that recognition. It was January 20XX. And the long awaited and heavily funded Project "Patient Zero" came to a closing. The showcase was up.
The showcase was hosted in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Despite the other four subject's excitement, Spore found herself to be distraught. Heartbroken. After so many years of testing and development, the were going to be displayed like some product. During the showcase, her stress was becoming overwhelming. Displaying her abilities in an unseen what from what was documented in the research. Spores on her skin appeared and burst, causing the mold to sprinkle in the air. The audience applaud. Yet, the scientists held major concern and came to retrieve her immediately. Upon touching her, the scientists were all infected and corroded. The audience breathing the air began to cough and wheeze. Vomiting blood and their flesh fell apart. To say Spore was shocked is an understatement...
Spore began to flee. Running through the streets of Dubai. Corroding buildings and people in the process. Local authorities attempted to gun her down. But by the time they engaged, they were already infected. As she ran into an abandoned build, Valka awaited. Already inside a custom hazmat suit. Spore was reluctant to talk as she was in a haste to leave. Valka didn't say a word. Only offering a passport and a syringe containing the ADS supplement. Spore took the passport and swatted the ADS out of her hand before leaving and never being seen again.
Now, Spore is on the run. Safeguard informed locally that they would handle the situation. Yet, many governments had taken to the cause to neutralize Spore themselves. Multiple "attacks" happened through the Arabian Peninsula, three in North Africa, and a trail of corrosion in cities throughout North America.
