Sharyn birthday.

Even if they have some struggles with money, he wouldn't skip the kids' birthday for any reason, not after WuXin taught him of the importance of birthdays. Last he wants is them to get the thought to be unimportant or that their life isn't worth being celebrated.

On Earth he has quite some sources of money, including some cunning investments, so he can at least use that money as plan b, buying stuff from Earth instead of Xhuanghen, as the exchange ratio would be way too disadvantageous otherwise.
He heads to Seoul to buy lots of stuff for the party, including snacks, ingredients, pizzas, cake and some decorations, plus of course a gift.

He and WuXin prepare the whole house of the party and also the stuff to serve. Relatives and friends are already invited, although not too many people, just the close one they hold dear.
Since it's likely the last thing they do in that house before moving to Shiinden, he won't try to sedate XinLan for the occasion.
