What he wishes you knew
Headcanons!
✧ Will has incredibly vivid dreams, some are so intense he believes them to be real, but will never tell anyone for fear of being babied for it.
✧ Will started his artwork due to these dreams. He wasn't able to put it into words what he saw, so he illustrated it instead.
✧ Will made castle Byers as an escape from Lonnie and Joyces constant fights. He thought that if he could run away from it, it would mean it wasn't happening.
✧ With his parents strained relationship, Will grew afraid of falling in love. All he has as an example is Lonnie and Joyce, and he knows what they had isn't right, but views it as what love really is. This has caused him to shut out his emotions and draw himself back from people once he feels too close to him.
✧ Will has scars all over his stomach and back where he would scratch uncontrollably to try to get the mind flayer out. On some nights, he still scratches out of fear. Only Joyce and Jonathan have seen these scars. Will avoids mirrors because of them.
✧ Will keeps a dream journal tucked away somewhere secret with his whole life planned out. His dream wedding, where he lives, his best friends, his children, and pets all listed out. Nobody has seen it because he worries he'll be seen as too "feminine". He accidentally let it slip that he had one to Mike but covered it up by pretending to pass out. Slick.
✧ Halloween night was maybe the first time Will felt loved, truly and unconditionally loved. Since the word 'love' feels wrong after Joyce and Lonnie's whirlwind relationship, he uses the word crazy to describe how he feels when he's in love. To remind him of that night.
✧ He picked up on the habit of staying incredibly quiet because he sees noise as dangerous. You make too much noise in the upside down? You're dead. You say the wrong thing? The party blows up. He is terrified of speaking up.
✧ He loves stargazing. He's also gotten really into astrology because he reads seventeen magazine with El when she gets a new edition. He sneaks off when she's busy and reads the columns on relationship advice, but never takes it.
✧ He is a major queen fan and his favorite colors are yellow and green. I will not hear otherwise.
✧ Jonathan taught him how to communicate his feelings through music. Ever since, Will has made all of his friends mixtapes. When him and Mike got into a big fight, he put a tape together with all of his favorite songs and sat it on Mikes doorstep with a simple post it note saying "I'm sorry" on it.
✧ His neck gets really itchy but he just has to deal with it because everyone assumes when he touches his neck it's some kind of omen.
✧ Mike was Wills only friend for quite some time, for that he feels devoted to Mike. Ever since they met he viewed his friend as a sort of knight in shining armor presence, a hero. He's doodled Mike for as long as he can remember because of this admiration, mostly in class when he doesn't even notice it.
