Rumia (Combat Only)

Basic information

Name: Rumia
Nicknames: Youkai of the Dusk, Youkai hiding in the darkness, Man-eating youkai
Gender: Female
Sexuality: Unknown as she doesn’t know what this is.
Pronouns: She/Her
Age: She doesn’t age. She has existed for over 60 years, but has the mindset of a child-teen.
DOB: She doesn't know her date of birth. However, she tends to have her birthday in early july.

Place of origin: Gensokyo
Race: Youkai [Darkness]
Race details: Youkai's are Eastern creatures of mythology, tales and fables. In Gensokyo, they live with humans, usually in harmony. While many kinds of youkai exist, Rumia is her own kind of youkai, being a darkness youkai. She however does show a few similarities with ghouls. Most youkai, including her, are vulnerable to Eastern religions.
[Appearance]
Height: She is 4’1” ft. tall (125 cm)
Weight: She weighs 55.6 lbs (25.2 kg)
Eye color: Red
Hair color: Blond
Other features: She has sharp teeth that belong more to a carnivore than a human, but otherwise she looks like a human (minus the red eyes)
Casual clothing: Her casual clothing consists of a white blouse with a black vest and knee-length skirt. Accessories include a red tie, white shocks and old-school red shoes. She always wears a red ribbon in her hair.
[Personality]
Rumia can be seen as a relatively innocent, childlike and fun-loving soul. She quite likes having fun with others, in whatever way that may be. However, she has a more sinister side. She is particularly hungry, and has developed a liking towards the taste of flesh. She can end up getting pretty ravenous if left hungry by any effects or magic. Luckily, meat works as a substitute.
She is brave, but she has her own fears that she is vulnerable to, as well as some creative manipulators manipulating her to their bidding. She is also not the smartest, especially with any modern technology, but she has her own quirks that make up for it.
Besides having a love for flesh, Rumia also likes the moon and the night, and having fun of course. She dislikes (or rather fears) ofuda, light magic, and being eaten. She has a particular distaste over vegetables too.
Her hobbies include mindlessly flying around, having fun and playing, and consuming meat.
[Other info]
Previous occupation: She didn’t really have any. She just enjoyed life like a child.
Relationships: She has no current relations in this new place.
Bio: The youkai of darkness, man-eating youkai, and rather weak enemy Rumia. Since her birth she has always lived in gensokyo, being one of the many lesser youkai there. Her main ability of darkness manipulation may sound like it belongs to a much stronger villain, but she is quite weak. Ever since her battles against a shrine maiden, she knew she needed to get stronger. Thanks to luck, her abilities and being an unimportant person, she managed to avoid being in the incidents that came and went, generally not to be beaten to a pulp again until she would get stronger.
By developing her darkness manipulation, she could finally apply her darkness aura at a distance, meaning she could blind enemies with it. However, she still wouldn’t let go of surrounding herself in the darkness aura, mainly for cooling but also for blocking off light. By practicing with her danmaku, she could develop new spell cards, allowing her to potentially fight for much longer in these spell card battles. Her magical energies for using these spell cards also increased, but the most important thing that she trained was close-range fights. Just for fun, though. She didn’t intend on killing anybody with her deadly bites or fight to the death with close-range brawling. Not until soon after…
After more than 10 years since the incident she took part in, a new one happened that she couldn’t avoid. On her side, the worst part is that she would be separated as the first person from Gensokyo. This strange incident randomly takes people and sends them to different worlds that often are less kind than Gensokyo. For Rumia, this meant she would be fighting many, many beings now, off all sizes and calibers.

Combat information

Rumia may not be one of the stronger combatants here, but she is plenty capable of fighting people of all kinds. This is thanks to her versatile training and capabilities. These will be described here. Do note that the first sections will explain flavor, the mechanical stuff is below.
[Natural abilities]
This section includes all abilities belonging to Rumia’s species. Therefore, these abilities aren’t considered magical unless stated.
Youkai body and soul
As a youkai, Rumia benefits from physical and spiritual improvements that many youkai have, at least when compared to a human. Some of these improvements will be seen in the stats, but there are some more: She has improved strength, comparable to an adult human worker. Her endurance, both physically and spiritually is also greater than that of a human. She otherwise gains minor boosts to magical capabilities and agility that are already accounted for. Lastly, she has night vision, allowing her to see in the night.
The main weaknesses of being a youkai is being vulnerable to holy damage. Less so from western religions, but more so from eastern religions, including the seals, shrine magic and ofudas. She is also somewhat vulnerable to light magic, although she has her ways of mitigating the weaker light magic that is present.
Ghoul-like youkai
Rumia has traits that should belong to a ghoul. The primary trait is flesh consumption. She is capable of consuming the flesh/meat from any being that has it (so no plants, undead or constructs), using her sharp teeth. This flesh can then heal her body and possibly energize her if the flesh is magic. Bigger pieces of flesh or meat provide greater healing, but also take longer to consume. She can consume three size categories of flesh.
Other effects of this ability include an immunity to the negative effects from consuming raw meat or flesh, having a slightly better relation with ghouls, and having sharp teeth that can be used as an effective melee weapon. Do note that this doesn’t mean she is undead.
Reckless bumpy flight
Rumia often bumps into random objects, such as trees, walls and more. Over the years, she adapted to the many bumps she made, so she is capable of surviving them more. A minor ability, this ability improves her resistance towards damage caused from being thrown or knocked into objects, or from falling or ramming into things. Especially for her head, this resistance is visible.
[Abilities]
Generally, all the other abilities not coming from her species sit here. They are usually magical, supernatural or non-mundane in nature.
Darkness manipulation
Rumia, as the youkai of darkness, is capable of manipulating darkness to her full extent. This kind of darkness is not demonic, but just the darkness that blocks vision. Still, in her hands it can be quite powerful. From blinding enemies to covering herself in it, she has a lot of uses with it.
She can hardly use her darkness manipulation for offensive purposes, the darkness being better suited for defense and utility. The primary way to use it defensively is to protect herself against light magic. Its main function is limiting vision in many ways. Considering that it’s magical darkness, normal night vision won’t suffice to see through it. Due to blocking the sunlight, large patches of darkness can also be a few degrees cooler than its surroundings, but this doesn’t affect combat really. The darkness tends to block color light, but is unable to block other kinds of light, mainly heat radiation.
Rumia herself is not immune to this darkness manipulation, but she still is resistant to it. The darkness manipulation comes in three densities, depending on what she wants to do, and which enemies she faces against. The lower the density, the easier it is to see through. But the highest density provides the most protection against light magic. Due to this being her core ability, it is especially cheap for her to use as she never gets tired when using it in normal amounts suited for her.
Despite this ability being magical, it is also part supernatural in nature. Therefore, anti-magic doesn’t suppress it, only weakening it. It is weak against strong light magic though, but the darkness manipulation itself isn’t weak either.
Blind awareness
Due to Rumia often surrounding herself in her own darkness, she learnt how to mitigate some of its effects, by training a blind awareness. This works via some kind of hidden senses and feelings, as it isn’t that connected to her main senses. Unlike natural abilities, her blind awareness is more so trained instead of evolved.
For most purposes, she can comfortably evade melee attacks or very slow projectiles thanks to her blind awareness. She can also counter being blinded, or having any of her senses being gone, because of this. Of course, due to her fighting style, she doesn’t often benefit from this, but if she happens to use her secondary fighting style, she can actually gain a pretty good advantage.
Danmaku
As a gensokyoan, Rumia can use danmaku. Danmaku in short are patterns of magical projectiles that represent something, such as a ray of moonlight or a great storm. Weaker patterns are considered basic attacks, although the strongest people can even have complex patterns. Stronger patterns are considered spell cards, with limited uses depending on the spell card battle. Danmaku doesn’t necessarily need to be magic projectiles, but in Rumia’s case, she uses magic projectiles (and sometimes lasers).
Although danmaku is Rumia’s primary offensive capability at a distance, Danmaku doesn’t damage directly. Instead, a hit causes stamina to drain. This makes most armor and blocking useless, as well as nullifying which part it hits. However, danmaku still does a small amount of damage directly. Danmaku can also drain other kinds of life energies if stamina isn’t present, such as magical energies keeping a construct or undead active. This is specifically to avoid these beings having an unfair advantage in danmaku battles.
Due to the different circumstances of the battles she will be in, she is capable of unleashing the true strength of her spell cards, but she can always limit it if death isn’t allowed. The same goes for her danmaku projectiles. Unless limited, they will deal the usual damage, but if limited, they will deal miniscule damage, often just enough to damage clothing.
Flight
Rumia is capable of basic flight. While this does give her an advantage against people who can’t fly, flight was abundant in Gensokyo so it was normal for her to have it. She is limited to a flying speed of roughly 75 km/h (46.6 miles/h), which is still an impressive flying speed. She can dodge and evade effectively while flying, and attack back as well. However, flying at high speed can provide some problems, mainly with accuracy.

[Moves]
With the abilities out of the way, it’s time for the moves that Rumia has. They will be categorized in three ways: Danmaku attacks, spell cards, and other moves. All the abilities mainly are for flavor, here are the mechanics.
For the purpose of damage (and stamina-draining) for danmaku attacks, spell cards and other damaging moves, they will be scaled according to how well they destroy a human.
Miniscule - Damages clothing at most, can cause a small amount of pain, or can be ignored.
Low - Damage equivalent to unarmed combat such as punches and kicks.
Medium - Damage equivalent to large blunt weapon or small blade weapon attacks.
High - Threatening damage, such as from a sword. A good hit can cripple a human.
Dangerous - Greatswords, battle-axes and gunshots. They can kill humans quickly.
Lethal - One attack is guaranteed to kill any normal human.
As for stamina-draining:
Low - Drains little stamina, equivalent to using up a few punches, or below 1%
Medium - A good dozen hits can tire out a human. Roughly 5% stamina drain.
High - Drains stamina quickly, requiring few hits. Roughly 15% stamina drain.
Tiring - One hit already tires out some humans. Roughly 45% stamina drain.
Exhausting - One hit makes a human exhausted. Roughly 90% stamina drain.
Danmaku attacks
Rumia has several kinds of danmaku attacks to barrage her target with, and she can always adapt to new ones to create bigger patterns. The different kinds of projectiles used will be listed first, before any notable patterns that she may frequently use.
She may, for any of her danmaku attacks, limit it’s deadliness. In that case, the damage becomes miniscule and mostly ignoreable.
Colorful bullets/pellets: The main projectile Rumia uses in most of her spell cards. They are pretty generic magical projectiles which are weak but cheap. Pellets are smaller and more pastel in color. They can come in any round shape.
Damage: Low. Stamina drain: Low. Effects: None.
Darker bullets: These danmaku bullets are slightly larger, but mainly darker variants of regular danmaku. They are harder to see due to them being dark, with only the colored outlines showing their position.
Damage: Low. Stamina drain: Low. Effects: Increased stealth
Dark bullet: A variant with black outlines. They are so hard to see, they can only be detected normally at a meter distance.
Added effect: Cannot be normally spotted outside 1m.
Moonlight beams: Danmaku beams made from moonlight are quite dangerous. Not only are beams quite harmful, they also hit fast with high range. Moonlight beams also do well in penetrating weak defenses, but in particular counter light and darkness defenses. The width can differ from a dozen cm to a few meters, the latter being deadlier and more penetrating.
Damage: Medium-Lethal. Stamina drain: Medium-Tiring. Effect 1: Penetrates up to knight armor/weak magic shields. Effect 2: Negates light and dark element defenses.

Of course, there are also the notable patterns listed here. They don’t have a cooldown as they are considered regular attacks, and also do not have a duration.
Penta-moon: A quick attack pattern where she shoots 5 1m-wide moonlight beams, equally spread out from each other. This can cause some destruction to large or small groups of enemies, and has plenty of range too.
Dark descent: A rather close-range pattern which surrounds herself in a high density of blue darker danmaku bullets, which expand slowly. The density ups the damage a tier, so be careful not to be too close.
Beam split: After using a moonlight beam attack, it causes blue danmaku bullets to form and expand out from the beam. This gives it some horizontal range.
Moonrain: Throws a lot of blue (and white) danmaku pellets in the air, which then fall around her after a turn. Great AoE value, bad vertical range.
Spell cards
Rumia has several spell cards, which can be used on individual or multiple targets. They are all different from each other, but share some similarities, especially in how they are used, and the fact they are stronger than danmaku attacks.
All spell cards have a duration of how long they are active, although they can be canceled early if the user takes enough damage. The stun effect or similar are also valid options to interrupt spell cards, except when stated. Once a spell card is done, she needs a 3 turn cooldown before she can activate another one. Some spell cards can mitigate this cooldown, but usually only on a response of reaching critically low health/stamina. Rumia does not have any of these yet. Spell cards may also include usage of non-danmaku abilities, such as her darkness or sharp teeth.
Do note that spell cards are independent when considering copying/stealing/sealing abilities, and are also independent from the danmaku ability. Those using spell cards also suffer the same cooldown/recharge before being able to use another spell card.
[Darkness sign: Dark waves]: This spell card is simple, where Rumia shoots rings, alternating between blue danmaku bullets, and smaller but more blue danmaku pellets. These rings expand at a moderate speed, and the gaps aren’t too hard to miss. When fighting against flying enemies, the rings are shot in their direction.
Duration: 2 turns. Effects: None.
[Darkness sign: Moon bombardment]: Rumia shoots rings of blue and green pellets. However, after a few shots, her target(s) will be bombarded by 1m moonlight beams from above. The beams originate from blue spheres right above the target, so moving constantly means not getting hit by them.
Duration: 3 turns. Effects: None.
[Moon sign: Great moon ray]: The most destructive spell card in Rumia’s hand when damage is enabled, at least against single enemies that rarely move. She fires a great moonlight beam reaching 8 meters in diameter, which can move at 1 m/s from its hitting spot. The downside is a lack of versatility, and being left vulnerable afterwards.
Duration: 3 turns. Effects: Can obliterate walls, orc’s and vehicles up to armored trucks. Limitations: Cannot be used as her first spell card.
[Moon sign: Dark side of the moon]: Rumia surrounds her target in a high-density darkness sphere, effectively blinding them. She then shoots rings of dark bullets that rotate around herself and expand outwards. An unfair spell card in the eyes of some, but for her just a great feeling.
Duration: 2 turns. Effects: Target is blinded by high-density darkness sphere for the duration of the spell card. Limitations: Cannot be used as her first spell card.
[Darkness sign: Blinded birds]: Rumia shoots wide, tall and long arcs of danmaku bullets, alternating between red, green and blue, representing the flapping wings. At first it can panic someone, but the secret is the gaps are straightforward.
Duration: 3 turns. Effects: Cannot be blinded by any effects for duration.
[Darkness sign: Great darkness]: A 200 meter sphere of high-density darkness appears around Rumia. She then fires a stream of dark bullets at where she thinks the target is, the dark bullets moving fast. This spell card may seem strong, but just sidestepping means she won’t know where you are. Unless you are close to her.
Duration: 3 turns. Effects: Completely blinds herself and anybody within 200m of her with a great darkness sphere. Also reduces damage from all light magic by 50%. Limitations: Cannot be used as her first spell card. Aftereffect: Apply 1 turn stun on Rumia when this spell card is interrupted before ending normally or by her choice.
Moves
Anything not danmaku or spell card sits here. This mainly explains how her active abilities work. It’s mainly just mechanics, as the flavor is already explained..
Darkness: Rumia’s core ability, making her who she is. Most of it is already explained, but here are the mechanical effects.
She summons a darkness sphere that is 2 meters wide, moving along with her, with a target of choice, on a vector, or being stationary. The size can increase, but usually doesn’t exceed 5 meters, unless in rare circumstances. She can also conjure multiple darkness spheres. The density of darkness defines its effects.
Light - For beings without night vision, it is a heavily dimmed area, so they could only see grays of sorts, and within 10 meters. Beings with night vision are unaffected.
Medium - Beings without night vision can’t see in it at all. Beings with night vision can see up to 10 meters far in it, and without colors. Rumia can see twice as far in it.
High - Beings, even those with night vision, can’t see through it, including Rumia. Dark vision is required to see through the sphere, and even then, not at max efficiency.
The greater the density, the more protection it gives against light magic, and the more it dims light.
Bite: A basic attack that is possible thanks to her sharp carnivore-like teeth. This deals damage similar to a wolf biting you, meaning it isn’t life-threatening unless there are repeated bites. However, Rumia can also rip off meat/flesh as she deals the damage, causing quite some pain as well, possible bleeding, etc. Each bite can yield her one small chunk of meat/flesh to consume. Her bites have quite the short range, partly mitigated due to her flight, and can be easily blocked by armor or a shield.

Consume: She can consume flesh and meat, whether raw or cooked, to benefit from it. There are three categories, based on size, for her to consume. The larger the meat, the longer it takes to consume, but the better the effects.
Small - Small Rodents, small birds and insects. It can be consumed within a turn, and heals her for 2.5% of her max health. She can eat it quickly enough to not be interrupted when doing so. This doesn’t remove hunger.

Medium - Bunnies, birds of prey, and small cats fall in this category. She needs 2 turns to consume them quickly, or 3 if doing normally. They heal her for 7.5% of her max health, but the consuming can be interrupted here.
Perfect size - Larger animals such as baby cows, wolves and smaller humanoids. She needs 5 turns at least to consume them, and can be interrupted pretty easily. One piece heals her for 10% health each turn for 5 turns, but also reduces her speed by 25% for 5 turns. She also can’t consume anything else for the rest of the battle, and attacks against her stomach deal 10% more damage.
Consuming flesh or meat also gets rid of her hunger, but also gets rid of bleeding effects. It can also intimidate weak-willed enemies, or convince others to murder her. Still, she is all innocent when doing this.

[Statistics]
Most abilities provide passive things, which can usually be categorized into statistics. Not only base stats, but also things such as vision and resistances fall here.
Endurance: Rumia can endure plenty of attacks, her full youkai nature being unleashed too. She can endure 5 attacks that can be life-threatening to a human, such as gunshots to major organs, huge blade attacks, or her normal moonlight beams.
Spiritual endurance: Pretty fine. Only people who actually practice spiritual (or holy) magic make a chance against her spiritual endurance.
Strength: Rumia has the strength of an adult human, or about 50 kg (110 lbs.)
Speed: Rumia has a running speed roughly equal to a human (12 km/h (7.5 mph)).
Flying speed: Rumia can fly at max 75 km/h (46.6 lbs).
Evasion: Rumia can well evade both melee and ranged attacks. Her reaction time isn’t quick enough to evade perfectly aimed gunshots however.

Normal senses: Rumia has no enchanted, nor worsened senses.
Night vision: Rumia is capable of seeing in the dark at any distance. Magical darkness can block her night vision in higher densities.
Blind awareness: Rumia can sense any movements within 5 meters of her if she is blinded. Some people are capable of avoiding this awareness.

Immunities & Resistances: 75% resistance to dark magic, 50% resistant to poison damage and diseases, 25% resistance to unholy magic, 25% resistance to knockback/fall damage, 5% resistant to cold and moon damage.
Weaknesses: 50% weak to holy magic (+25% if Eastern religion), 25% weak to light magic, 25% weak to monster-slaying weapons, 10% weak to mental effects, 5% weak to warmth.

[Battle information]
Rumia’s style revolves around staying at range to fire danmaku and use spell cards, but it isn’t rare for her to go into the melee with darkness and blind awareness on her side, especially if the target is unarmored. She can be reasonably brave, confident but also knows somewhat when she is dealing with a real threat. Due to how far she has trained, she has actually grown a little more smart as she needs to strategize more, whether it is about her spell cards or how she is going to fight.

Strengths: Rumia tends to do well against anybody who doesn’t have darkvision or other ways of mitigating magical darkness. She also does well against melee fighters due to her range, and against ranged glass cannons due to her evasion and own powerful attacks. Her mobility can leave some people wanting, and she can (if subconsciously) both awe and intimidate people with her combined cuteness and… food taste.

Weaknesses: Rumia is still a young youkai, leaving her gullible. She can be pretty quickly convinced to do things if there is a reward in it, after all. In combat, people who have darkvision counter her core ability, but she’s really countered by people with supernatural endurance, or people who can evade really well. Her spell cards are designed after all to let an expert evader be able to evade without problem.

Ephemera

Character Name: Ephemera

Alias: The Darkness, Ms. Nothingness, The First Enemy, the Empress of Death Gods

Race/Species: Concept Embodiment (Ephemeral)

Gender: Fluid (but mostly presents female/feminine)

Age: Primordial

Career/Class: N/A

Powers: Shapeshifting, Perfect Doppelganger,Fear Inducement, Night Empowerment, Primordial Darkness Manipulation/Generation, Existence Manipulation, Life Absorption. Cycle Breaking

Weaknesses: Her most notable weakness is the seven heavenly weapons, this doesn’t defeat her out right, but seals her in a dimension she cannot escape. One weakness is her inability to keep her plans hidden.

Ephemera due to her shapeshifting is seldom locked into a specific appearance. Though she does have common attributes to her preferred look, inherited from Maesa. For example, Ephemera tends to have vivid golden irises, particularly at full power. When her power is waning, she takes on crimson devil hues. In terms of physical features, she tends to appear youthful often around 18 years of age physically. Though when she is severely weakened, she appears as a child, approximately 10-13 years of age physically.

Ephemera’s primary form is that a blonde adolescent/young adult, with a very pleasing physique and baby face. It’s complemented nicely by her golden irises, giving her an innocent look and sometimes heroic or divine, depending on the attire. This image can be quickly corrupted when wings are manifested, as one wing looks demonic while the other angelic.

Equipment/Other: None, Ephemera is very old fashioned and if she needs a tool, she tends to manifest it.

Mental Description/Personality: Ephemera is incomprehensible to most beings, due to her orange and blue morality. She tends to deviate between both alignments and it’s very unclear her complete set of morals. What is known and she will tell someone this, is that Ephemera is both very honourable, honest to a fault, and sometimes overconfident in her abilities. She can come across as childish, regardless of her appearance but her intelligence is not to be questioned. She specializes in Psychological warfare and can read people with stunning accuracy. She can also be considered an empath, able to understand emotions very well, sometimes being overwhelmed by it also. What makes Ephemera bizarre is that she will openly announce her intentions to enemies and ally alike. Seemingly, she is incapable of lying and less likely to equivocate. Though if one misunderstands her, that could open the way for potential equivocation but it is not consciously done.

Despite this, people do not understand why she wants what she does. She claims to be a woman of peace, desiring nothing but calmness across the multiverse but in order for that to happen, she wishes to render it into complete Nothingness.

Goals: Eternal Night.

Background/History: Before the Trinity established the multiverse as we know it, there existed Nothing. In that Ephemeral state, Ephemera was born and she slept. The sweet dreams and comfort was all she needed, until the Trinity decided to fill the vastness of space with life. She told them that the existence of lifeforms lower than them was indeed Ephemeral. No good would come of such, they should instead enjoy each other’s company and let her have her peace and quiet.

Her words were to no avail and so she clashed with them at every turn, until she was defeated. Returning to Nothingness, she ceased to exist within a small part of the multiverse. Her domain where cosmic beings that ceased to exist, ascended to. There they would sleep, enjoying the Eternal Night. Except, Ephemera wasn’t entirely wrong about the life Atamosi desired to make. As they played through the cycle, her essence came over them within the midst of despair and anxiety alike.

Ephemera was nearly reborn many times throughout history but was inhibited until time was altered and Atamosi’s successor deviated from the path fate had in store. These deviations led to new life being given to the First Enemy.
