(Sorry it's taking so long for me to respond. I took a shower.)

As the SUV put the ambush in the rear view, a gruff voice came over the radio.

"All callsigns, ENDEX. I say again, ENDEX."

Just like that, The "wounded" Michael and Nick sat up and the "protectee" got out of the vehicle and took her face mask off. Cole and Michael were talking about something and Nick made a beeline straight for Matt. Gordon saw him coming and was about to say something before Nick raised a hand to the man, shutting down any verbal defense before it could be raised. He walked up to Matt and took a harsh grab of one of the shoulder straps on Matt's gear, pulling the man closer to him.

"Are you hard of f**kin' hearin' or somethin'? Cole told you to take the wheel. You had casualties and a protectee in danger and you get out of the vehicle to pull a dead man in and risk our lives? What the f**k is your problem?

Nick walked up on Matt as he walked away, not done berating him. Michael grabbed Nick from behind to keep him off of Matt.

"You got one job: protect the client. When we do PSDs, we are not the priority. What? You want to earn a medal or something? Because I've got news for you, this isn't the army. We are expected to do the job. You go off mission to do unnecessary things like corpse retrieval on a real op, you could get everyone killed. And I won't have some wannabe hero in any element under my command you sack of s**t.

As Matt stepped forward to defend himself from Nick's tirade, Gordon stepped in front of him before the younger man could do anything brash.

"Leave it, lad. Just leave it. You don't understand."

As Nick stormed off, Cole and Michael leaned against the SUV, not speaking or looking at anyone.

With Nick gone, Gordon took a deep breath and ran a hand through his hair before speaking.

"I think that's enough excitement for today, gents. Get back to the cages, check and stow gear, yeah?"

With that, Cole and Michael took the SUV back towards the barracks building. Gordon turned back towards Matt.

"Come on, mate. We can walk back to the cages. You and I need to talk."

Originally born in Southern Texas near the U.S./Mexico border, Steve grew up being beaten and pimped out by his father. His mother died delivering him, and none of the other women that he would see his father with throughout his life were very motherly types. In addition to this, Steve was a small child much of his life. This left him as a target for larger, older children who like to bully him. This led to Steve going to the principal’s office a lot for fighting. Over that time, Steve befriended (and developed a crush on) a young man in his school. When his father found out about the tryst, he beat Steve and threatened to kill him and his friend. With no one for Steve to confide in and be vulnerable around, he turned into a socially awkward hot head who was no stranger to Juvenile Detention. This culminated in Steve’s violent attack of one of his fellow high school graduates, in which he beat the young man into a coma. The arresting officer was the father of the boy Steve had attacked and the judge who heard the case was the boy’s grandfather. Steve was given a choice: go to prison or enlist in the U.S. military. Despite some disciplinary issues with fellow recruits, Steve proved himself as a soldier. As soon as he graduated Infantry AIT, he then volunteered for Ranger School, which is world renowned for its difficulty. Sergeants and Officers paint Tex as an unstable, insubordinate, trigger happy sociopath, while squad mates swore up and down that Tex was a guardian angel who just happen to go looking for gunfights. The final straw for Steve’s military career came in 2016 when his Ranger platoon was dispatched as the QRF for a Green Berets ODA who were pinned down by Taliban forces. During the rescue, the Chinook Steve was in was shot down. As the Lieutenant argued over what to do, Steve punched the man and led a small Ranger detachment to reach and save the men. This led to Westbrook’s discharge from the Army and soon after, his hiring by Grey Sword PMC.

From an early age in her hometown in Lyon, France, Alexis “Lexi” Devereaux was a tomboy. She enjoyed playing soccer against boys in her neighborhood and to special pleasure in embarrassing the ones who though “girls shouldn’t play soccer.” When Lexi was in her early teens her father allowed her to begin working in the family’s pyrotechnics display business. It was here that Lexi developed her love of things that go ‘BOOM’. When Lexi turned 18, she joined The French Army and volunteered for Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) training. In her first deployment to Central Africa, she would go on to disarm dozens of unexploded landmines. Some of the mines were from the most recent “civil” unrest in the area. Some of them were from a few regimes back. Lexi took comfort in knowing that civilians - despite the many dangers around them - didn’t have quite so many mines to worry about. Over the next two years, she would deploy to Afghanistan where she would sometimes be called to several dozen suspected IED sites per day. Her incredible ability to detect the bombs no matter where they were buried earned her the nickname “Chasseresse” (“Huntress”) among her fellow troops. After three years in the regular army, Lexi volunteered for Special Forces selection (which had recently opened to women). After making it through selection, Lexi was assigned to the 1st Marine Infantry Paratroopers Regiment. As part of the Regiment, Lexi was assigned to a number of covert missions. Although Lexi enjoyed serving her country, the sexism and intolerance of those around her led her not to re-enlist in the Army. Lexi officially left the military in 2017. After leaving the military, Lexi joined a couple of Non-Governmental Organizations dedicated to finding and disarming landmines and IEDs before being hired by Grey Sword PMC.

The oldest of two children born in Saint Petersburg, Russia, Pavel “Ace” Morzodrenko grew up with three interests: language, music and technology. When Pavel was in his teens, he began working in his father’s computer shop. Somewhere in that time, he got into hacking. At first, it was little things like changing schoolmates grades for money. But, just after Pavel turned 18, he got into serious trouble for hacking into the financial records and assets of a company that his father performed I.T. services for after the company refused to pay what they owe, which would have been a financial hit that the company couldn’t recover from. Pavel was facing serious charges for his crimes, until an agent of the GRU (one of Russia’s largest intelligence agencies) intervened on his behalf. The agent was impressed by Pavel’s technical skills and convinced him that exceptional service to his country would see all the charges against him dropped. Though Pavel displayed more than enough intellect to justify remaining in the GRU’s Cyber Warfare Unit, through his VDV training, he wanted to serve on the front lines. Over the ten years of Pavel’s career, him and his team were deployed to various places around the world for missions of asset recovery or destruction, disinformation, kill/capture, etc. This came to an end in 2018 while his team was on a covert operation in Northern Africa when they refused to kill civilians who had seen their faces. For their “insubordination” the team was strafed by a Russian fighter jet’s machine guns. Being the only survivor, Ace wandered alone for awhile until he was picked up by a U.S. Special Forces unit investigating the air strike. He surrendered to them and divulged information that he had about a number of Russian black ops around the world in exchange for American citizenship and a new life.

Gordon grabbed at the top his personal plate carrier and took a deep breath as he began walking.

"Look, it's not on you, lad. You remember when I told you about the mate we lost in Bolivia last month? Well, we were in the country training the Bolivian Army's Special Forces. Apparently the democratically elected president was at the American embassy for a meeting. Next thing we knew, the embassy was under attack. The attackers were soldiers loyal to some a general who was leading a military coup of the government. Those Marines were doing their best to hold off the attack, but we could hear their comms and knew that they needed help and they needed it bloody quick. Nick radioed in to out ITOC (That's something I made up short for "In Theatre Operations Commander") for permission to move to the embassy to provide support. We were denied and told that Marine reinforcements were coming to help. When Nick asked for an ETA on the Marine QRF, they said that they didn't have one. Nick made the decision for us to go to the embassy. Luckily the SF blokes that we were with were still loyal to the legitimate president. So we get in vehicles with all the ammo that we can and move to the embassy. But by the time we got to the city, there had been a cordon placed at every street a couple of blocks away from the embassy with either burning roadblocks or armed men. We dismounted and fought our way to the embassy on foot. We...lost some of the Special Forces lads. We had to leave them on the street. If we'd stopped to secure them, we would've gotten pinned down and picked off. So we continued on. Once we got to the embassy, we had a hell of a time getting past the attacking force at the gate, but we managed to push them back. The Marines were on rooftops inside the compound and there were dead men all over the ground. The Ambassador's Residence, The Main Administrative building and some portions of the Marine barracks were on fire. Most of the State Department security officers were dead, wounded or up on the perimeter, but last they'd heard, The Ambassador and The President were in the Residence, but couldn't say for sure if they'd made it to the safe room. So Nick had most of us move to take up defensive positions with the Marines while he, Cole and the mate we lost, Stewart, went into a burning building to look for two men that, for all we knew, were dead. We could hear shots from the radios and then Stewart said that he couldn't get out. Nick and Cole were closest to the door. Their plan was to come out, catch their breath and pull everyone out. But the fire was raging and it brought down the entrance. Lexi kept using charges to breach the walls of the residence to make escape routes. She got lucky and blew a hole that the Ambassador and President could get out through. But we still...we still hadn't found Stewart. By the time we were organized enough to try and go back in, the attack had restarted and we needed every gun possible on that perimeter. Harrison gave one more call on the radio and we stayed up in those fighting positions until the wee hours of the morning. The whole residence had basically burned to the ground and Stewart wasn't in any of the head counts. By the time the Marines arrived the next morning, all that was left of Stewart was a burnt carcass. It took two whole days for dental records to confirm it was his identity. See lad. THAT'S why Nick's so hard on you. It's not because you're a bad operator, it's that what you did was like looking into a mirror. We all lived through the worst case scenario. Harrison made the same call you did: no man left behind. Harrison gave the order for us to go in. He still...he still needs to forgive himself."

(I'm sorry for the long response. I've just had a couple days to REALLY flesh things out.)

"Yeah. That would DEFINITELY be best. He'll come around to ya, I swear. I'm tellin' ya lad, if he could make it next to the bloody maniacs we've already got on the team, He'll thank God you're around."

As Nick made his way back to the cage room, he could see that the team had already stowed their gear. Cole was doing pushups, Michael was reading a book and Gordon was cleaning his disassembled rifle. Also in the room were the other members of the team that hadn't been present during the training exercise.

Sitting on one of the tables in the middle of the room was the team's machine gunner, Steve "Tex" Westbrook. Looking at Tex's messy brown hair, his gold rimmed aviator shades that were more than likely shielding his eyes from the sting that comes with a hangover. He was wearing a sleeveless black t-shirt, jeans with rips in them (the "worked hard in them" kind, NOT the "fashion" kind) and worn brown cowboy boots. Next to him on the table was a six pack of beer that had three beers missing from them. The man had a smile on his face that gave him the impression of a loveable - albeit disheveled - man. But those that knew him best knew that Tex was actually bloodthirsty, unpredictable maniac who took great pleasure in killing and torturing people.

Leaning against his cage with his arms crossed was the team's tech specialist, Pavel Morzodrenko known to many as "Ace" due to his technical prowess. He was wearing a dark brown short sleeve t-shirt, tan brown cargo pants and black and grey hiking boots.

Finally, getting her gear out of her cage was the team's demolitions expert, Alexis "Lexi" Devereaux. She was wearing an OD green short sleeve t-shirt, hip hugging jeans and tan brown combat boots.
