The Book of Dreams

Despiadado replied to Despiadado's topic

Alone, bullied and depressed by the situation you were born and forced to face, you sought some comfort in your pen and notebook, writing down the wishes you hoped one day would come true.

However, after a particularly cruel prank played on you, you decided that enough was enough and that today, your life would end.

Writing down one last passage, you got up to grab the kitchen knife lying on the nightstand by your bed only to see that it wasn't there and you were no longer in your home.

Looking around to see a room decorated by the things that made you happy, sitting in the corner of your room sat the boy who took pity on you and brought you into the notebook you wrote in everyday, hoping to ease you of your burden. Making sure that your happiness came first, each night you slept you came back into his world, filled with wonders you would only ever see in your dreams. Nothing was left to want for, no feeling of remorse or loneliness when the boy was there to see and attend to you.

However, even this joy was short lived. As you wrote every night in the notebook, the pages began to dwindle until only one remained. Every story needed an ending and he had served you well enough to grant his life and end.

Or would you? You suffered too and without him there to give you what you so desperately needed, would your justified greed stop you from fulfilling his own wish?

Living life was what he was here to do. F*** highschool and the haters who were too low to hop up on his high. Foul mouthed and inconsiderate, Andreás Gonzalez was too busy rolling blunts and downing shots like a fat kid on a seesaw to bother with people. No one told him how to behave otherwise. Parents were dead, siblings were off in a foster home, never to be seen again and his guardian was the only role model he's ever really had to look up to and see where that got him.

However, he's not entirely irredeemable. His grades weren't shabby and when no one was looking, he was taking some time to study and focus on the future that he knew he had to fight for. In this place, he lived in a world that looked down on someone with his record. The face he showed to the public was different from the face of a kid who's really been starving for some affection of someone who understood him.

That's were you come in.

Clean, straight A's and all the doors to success open to you, you were the one unlucky enough to be assigned to tutor him as a form of service to the community that didn't know how to deal with him. At first, you did it because it looked good on your transcript and let's be honest, you certainly didn't mind being compared to someone like Andreás, especially when all the praise was coming your way.

But after a while, you could see a part of him that he kept deep inside himself all these years. The only part that makes him human. The part that comes out when he gives his money to the homeless, making sure that strays have a place to stay and the part that defends the victims of bullies who can't stand up for themselves.

So at the end of the day, with all the power you have over his own life that he himself doesn't own, will you prove to be his salvation or the person who drives him deeper into the ground, like, let's say, 6 feet under?
