Background: (Here is her long history for those who want to read it)

The sound of howling wind, shadows that dance in a dark corner, a sound that goes bump in the night; these are all silly little things that frighten only children, right? Most children can outgrow these fears over time, but what happens to the few selected to live with them forever?

There was a time when young Mindlyn was considered an average child. She was a happy five-year-old who loved chatting about her new baby sister. She had a loving mother who would do anything for her and a father who worked hard to provide them with a beautiful home. She spent many hours picking flowers with her father in a nearby field and trying to please her parents. Her Life was picture-perfect, almost similar to something out of a fairytale. However, like most fairytales, the obvious is not always what appears.

Shortly after her younger sister's birth, strange shadows appeared in the girl's room. These shadows would sometimes take the form of a person, while other times, they would lurk in the corners as if waiting for something or someone. The ones that took human form were basked in a bright light. They were friendly and often conversed with the young girl, protecting her from the dark shadows that frightened her. As time went on, more of these shadows started to appear. They would call out to the child in a deep, eerie voice and stir the child from her sleep. One night, when none of the white spirits were around, the others shrouded her in darkness, taking on a bolder form. She tried to hurry from her room, but these ghostly figures repeatedly held her to the wall as they chanted her name. The girl tried to fight them, begging them to leave her alone, but it wasn't until she let out a loud scream that they decided to vanish. Her parents rushed into her room, fearing for the worst. She tried her best to explain what had happened, but her parents dismissed the stories as some kind of foolish nightmare.

The following months proved to be much more challenging for the young girl. The previous story played out again and again each night. Mindlyn sought guidance and protection from the white shadows, often talking to them quietly in her room. She could not understand why her parents didn't see the figures that frequently visited her, as the white ones appeared to be solid humans. Once she began speaking with these spirits more openly, her parents became even more concerned for her wellbeing. Her parents tried to tolerate her bizarre behavior until, one day, it could no longer be ignored. People in the community started noticing the child babbling to herself about strange nonsense that no one seemed to understand. Her father's reputation at his job started to slip, and he soon became known as the man with the ill-minded daughter. Many began questioning his credibility as an intelligent businessman, and he became exceedingly frustrated.

One early morning, her father found the girl talking to herself again, and he completely lost it. He grabbed the girl by her shirt and dragged her out of the house. They traveled for hours until they reached an isolated asylum. It was there that he left her to rot in a filthy, rat-infested cell for two months. It took forever for her mother to find her, but when she did, Min was rescued. The girl was half-starved and even more withdrawn than she had been in the past. When the two returned home, they learned they no longer had a place to live. Min's father took his youngest daughter and left his wife and other daughter to fend for themselves. It was hard to imagine that anything could be normal for them again.

For the years that followed, Min lived quietly with her mother. Her mother was able to find odd jobs to pay for food and rent for a small room. Min helped her mother with work when she could, and as she vowed, she never spoke another word. Life returned to being relatively normal, although the young girl was careful to keep herself isolated. When her mother sent her out to buy groceries, she ignored the other children as they teased and taunted her. Life was bland and had little meaning for her, but she was content as long as she did not hurt her mother further. The shadows still plagued her occasionally, but she had found ways to avoid them. She hid any other strange discoveries about herself away from her mother and tried her best to handle them independently.

Before the girl's 10th birthday, another tragedy took place. It was late at night, and she was walking home with her mother after a long, hard day's work. The two of them had their arms full of bundles of laundry as they turned into a dark alleyway. Before either of them could hardly blink, a dark silhouette appeared, which was much different than those Min had seen in her room. This one was solid and cloaked in black, red eyes gleaming from beneath the turned-up hood. What happened next was utterly a blur. A slender hand lashed out, long claws extending from the fingertips that trashed forward to dig into the woman's throat. The child let out a voiceless scream, dumped the laundry into the street, and ran for her Life. She hid in a large crate left outside around the corner and stayed there until morning. By the time she reached the alley, things were not as they once were. Her mother's pale and lifeless body still rested in the alley, her murder long gone. Mindlyn sat on the ground with her mother, begging her to return to Life. After about an hour, she realized all hope was lost, and she forced herself to leave her mother's side forever.
