My preferred role: A
Character A is a complete loser with no social life to speak of. They have little prospects, but have an interest in magic. With some work, A manages to craft a spell to get everything they ever wanted -- that being character B. B is the complete opposite of A -- popular, friendly, and seemingly perfect. With their spell cast, it actually begins to work. B is falling for A, and everything is perfect. Except the spell is much more powerful than A expected and B is starting to get obsessive.

Character A is a complete loser with no social life to speak of. They have little prospects, but have an interest in magic. With some work, A manages to craft a spell to get everything they ever wanted -- that being character B. B is the complete opposite of A -- popular, friendly, and seemingly perfect. As the spell is just beginning, however, B confronts A. B uses magic themselves, their status was only achieved through magic. While A expects the worst, B decides that they're flattered by A's attempts and takes them under their wing as an apprentice.
