Bumpy Johnson


Bumpy Johnson, often referred to as The Godfather of Harlem, was an African American gangster, operator of numbers, racketeer, and bootlegger in Harlem during the early 20th century. He was sent to Alcatraz Federal Penitentiary in 1954, and was imprisoned until 1963. He was believed to have been involved in the 1962 escape attempt of Frank Morris, John Cobra, and Clarence Anglin. He died in 1968.
