Background:

It wasn’t always the pirates life for young Kota, she had lived in a small farming village with her mother, just in the outskirts of a booming traders market just along the coast. However, it all changed in a matter of hours. Her mother and her had decided to go into town and purchase some supplies they had been lacking. A trip they had done numerous times, never expecting the danger that awaited them. But unbeknownst to them, today was the day that a large band of pirates had come ashore. However, the pirates were not looking for trouble, they simply needed to restock as well but as soon as the British soldiers had seen that skull and crossbones flying in the wind, they didn’t ask any more questions. They opened fire and war broke our, between the smoke and the bangs coming from either side, Kota's body was petrified with fear. That was until she heard one single gunshot ring out amongst the crowd, and turned just in time to see the bullet barreling inher direction. Just as she closed her eyes and accepted her fate of death, she felt a large weight fall on top of her. When she finally dared to open her eyes, before her stood her mother. The once bright and beaming smile that had always graced the women features, was replaced with the wide eyes of terror. As she hunched over the young girl, blood slowly trickling from the corner of her mouth. Kotas mother had jumped in front of the bullet to protect her only daughter. The world seemed to slow down in that moment as young Kota held her mother in her arms and watched as she left this world. Meanwhile the battle still raged on around her, for hours it seemed. That was until the gunshots quieted and the smoke began to clear, it became apparent that the pirates had won as the bodies of British soldiers littered the street. The world sat in silence around the young girl, until she heard the heavy thuds of footfalls, and soon a man came into view. Kota didn’t have the energy to care who this man was as she slowly lifted her head to meet his gaze. The burly man saw the girl, still holding the lifeless body of her mother, he felt a warm sensation in his heart. So he took pity on her, offering up to take her away from here, to train and raise her as his own. With nothing left for her here, Kota accepted the mans offer, while it took a very long time to help her overcome the tragedies of her past. The young village girl soon became a captain of her own ship, sailing the vast seas, seeing new places and hunting for treasure.
