A Girl and Her Fears: Facing Trial in the Wizard W

Titled: Facing Fear in the Wizard World Part One. --the last word in the header was cut off, so I thought to put it here as well, so people will know the full title. This writing is for one of the projects (Wolfblood) that I am part of with my group of friends.--

Danielle had recently left her world and her family behind in search of a place she could feel she would be accepted for who she is as a person. The terrible verbal abuse from her father and brother had gone on for years. While her brother never yelled at her, her father, Lucius Malfoy, did. He would always hold his little staff in his hands as it had his wand in it, he would stand in a certain spot, and no matter what Danielle did, she would often hear the words, “Danielle, you are such a disappointment to this family. You are a Malfoy, you are supposed to hate Half-bloods and Muggles. We are superior. Instead, you waste your time gandering around with those friends of yours. You should be more like your brother.”

Danielle hated how every time her father spoke to her, it was always the same sentence over and over again, and he did not just say it, he yells it; sometimes even multiple times a day. Recently, she had packed her bags while on break from school at Hogwarts. She felt her family home as she had grown fearful of her father over the years, knowing that he was capable of many horrible things. She hated that he tried to push his elitist views onto her and how he always tried to belittle her. She had travelled to New Castle getting lost in the woods, where she met Rhydian.

Since then, she had been super careful as to not expose who she is to non magical beings, however, with the threat of Alex Kincaid and his attempts to turn magical beings into humans, it was beginning to look more and more likely that she would one day have to expose wizardry to humans. That day came today of all days when she was on a field trip with her friends and her other classmates. Yetis were attacking the museum her teacher Mr. Jefferies had taken the class for their field trip. As soon as Danielle saw that people were in danger, her instincts to protect others immediately kicked in.

She was successfully able to cast the spell, “Petrificus Totalus” on one of the Yetis. She watched as the spell bound its limbs together and watched the giant, white and furry creature fall to the ground. She even watched her friend Lyla use powers to take another Yeti down along with the rest of her friends. It was a long, intense battle for them all against the giant monsters. Its own growl reminded Danielle of her own father. Some time after the battle was over, an owl from her world delivered a letter to her and it was from the Ministry of Magic.

Danielle had grown to despise Hogwarts, her family home, she hated her family’s prejudicial views, she even despises their justice system because sometimes trials were not fair at all. Her old friend Harry Potter’s own trial was almost wasn’t completely fair since Delores Umbridge had it out for it and wanted to see Harry punished. She remembered how her late headmaster, Albus Dumbledore was able to help Harry be able to keep attending the school and to get out of punishment he actually did not deserve. In this moment, she and Harry are alike. They both exposed wizardy to Muggles to save people’s lives.

In Harry’s case, it was to save his cousin Dudley. In Danielle’s case, she did it to save innocents from monsters that would have likely seriously hurt or killed someone. Only thing is, would her trial be just like her old friend Harry’s. Who would be on her side? She had three days to appear for the trial. Professor Lupin, she did not know he was still teaching there, Professor Snape would be no help at all. The only professor who might even help her would be her favorite teacher, Professor McGonagall. At her new home with Dr. Whitewood, Danielle was clearly quiet at dinner time, as she contemplated how to go about how to deal with going back to a place that only gave her painful memories.

After dinner, Danielle finally looked at her adoptive mother, just wanting to know what to do in this situation. “Mom, I need your help.” Her voice cracked, shaking a little due to trying not to break down in tears again. “Where I am originally from, well, they want to see me at the Ministry of Magic for a trial for exposing wizardry to non magical beings. Thing is, I’m scared of going back. I have no good memories back where I am from. I come from a world I call the Wizard World. It’s filled with evil people, Dementors, my old headmaster was murdered, a few of my old friends were murdered there..” She completely broke down crying. She was unable to hold it together as she told her adoptive mom everything.

“I was never respected by my family, I always felt like an outcast because I had different views on things than my own family did, even witnessed how an evil wizard started a war that killed some people I cared about… I thought that if I came here, I would just be able to forget everything that happened. For the first time, ever since I came here and became your adoptive daughter, I have felt loved and respected. I don’t know if I could go back to my world and face prejudicial people..” Danielle found it hard to heal. She felt broken.

Suddenly, she felt arms wrapping around her as she cried. It was her adoptive mother, letting Danielle know she was not alone. Danielle buried her head into her mom’s arms, and just cried. She had never told anyone before how broken she felt until now. It was maybe a good hour that Danielle cried into Doctor Whitewood’s arms. Then Doctor Whitewood spoke to her in a soft, motherly tone.

“Danielle, everything will be okay. I know that you would only use your powers if you were saving someone who was in danger. My advice, head to the Ministry of Magic, talk to someone there that you absolutely trust before your trial, and make sure your story is heard. Don’t let them intimidate you. You don’t have to face your fears alone, sweetheart, and as much as I would love to go with you in support of you, I have to look after Lyla. You are a strong young woman capable of great things. I believe in you, Danielle.”

Hearing this, it gave Danielle some strength to fight some of her fears. “Thank you, mom. I will leave first thing in the morning after telling Mister Jefferies why I will be absent from school for a couple days. You are right, though. There is someone at my old school that I completely trust. I love you, mum. Also, you might have to keep my pet under lock and key while I am gone. Malloy is known for being a bit mischievous when he starts looking for shiny objects and I have his food in my room” Danielle hugged her mother tightly, then headed to her room to pack a couple of her old Hogwarts outfits.

Danielle took a deep breath. While she had no intentions of going back near Hogwarts, her family home or even back to the Ministry of Magic, Doctor Whitewood was right. She needed to make sure she was heard, face her fears head on, though she hopes that she does not run into her father. Things would escalate quickly with her father since Danielle had finally had enough of him emotionally abusing her for years. After packing a few outfits for her trial, Danielle put her suitcase on the floor under her bed, she put her pajamas on and put her dirty clothes in her hamper. She got onto her bed, turned out the light, and slowly drifted to sleep, holding her pet. She had a long few days ahead of her.
