Background: Born on a sleepy island in the grand line, Akumu lived an isolated but happy early life alongside his sister and parents. Each day the siblings would travel to the nearest market by row boat to sell the family's crops. One day in his tenth year he rowed back to see a pillar of smoke rising from their island. When they arrived he and Gumi found their parents tied up outside their home, pirates stalking around, ransacking the meager homestead for anything of value. Akumu watched on in frozen horror as the enraged pirate captain killed his mother and father. His screams of rage alerting the pirates to the childrens' presence. Akumu was taken captive, separated from his sister and shipped off to be sold into slavery. On this gruelling journey the boy managed to get free and made a bid for freedom, losing an eye in the process. In hastily gathering supplies for his exodus the young boy unknowingly stole the Gensui Gensui no Mi from the crew. Eating it while stranded on the raft he had made for himself, Akumu discovered his new power. Upon reaching land he made a living by using his new ability for ill, first for burglary, then heists, then murder. He trained himself into an infamous and terrifying killer, utilizing a pack of sharpened metal playing cards as formidable throwing weapons. The memories of his parents deaths and the horrors he endured under the pirate crew still haunt him, occasionally casting him into violent delusional fits that cause him to see the twisted grinning faces of his family's killers on those around him. While locked in these episodes he hears one voice through all the imagined taunts and jeers. That of his sister, calling to him from somewhere beyond the sea, begging him to find her.
