Background/Lore:

At a young age, Cassara's village was burned to the ground. Found to be the only survivor of the mysterious fire by a family of thieves, Cassara was taken in as a third child. Recovered from the village with only few burns and injuries on the outside they found out immediately that she suffered full amnesia. With only her first name to her memory, her life began as a young child trained to live and steal on the streets in the Mataidon kingdom where there is major division between the wealthy class and the working class. Cassara's father took advantage of having a little girl that no one would suspect of theft on a street and trained her endlessly in how to steal both in the night and daytime in plain sight, as well as teaching her how to fight with knives, how to defend herself, and how to escape from captivity. Being in a constant state of survival, Cassara learned to trust no one. As she got older and more independent she would go out on her own to steal.

One day, when she returned to where she and her family stayed, it would be an understatement to say that she was shocked to find them butchered. Father, mother, and both older brothers, all slain and bloody. They were never very kind to Cassara, and as cold as they acted towards her, and her towards them, they were still her family. Now alone, and dealing with the loss of a second family, Cassara let the thrill of daredevil acts like stealing for fun as well as survival, and messing with the kingdom guards take over her life. Adrenaline became all she cared about. At one point in time she came across a small, run down bookstore. One of the only ones left in the kingdom since the banning of them due to the royal government choosing to limit education. She decided that she wanted to learn how to read and write and for a small amount of time the bookstore owner helped her learn and let her borrow books, until some knights arrested him and then burned the store along with all of the books in it.

After this event Cassara became ruthless and reckless and stealing became the only thing that mattered to her. Crime was always a major issue in the kingdom she grew up in but she was so prevalent that she became the most wanted thief in the kingdom. By her late teenage years, she taught herself how to read and write, mastered being agile enough to easily jump rooftops, fight and defend herself with knives, and to steal from even the wealthiest noble homes with the highest amount of security. But one night she lets her recklessness and thrill-seeking urges overpower her survival instincts and she falls into a trap that leads her to the capture of the Kings men. After being caught and tortured for a night she was sentenced to be hanged for her crimes. The morning of the day that she was to be publicly executed she escaped. She fled Mataidon, never to look back.

She travelled around the countries, wandering aimlessly and never staying in any one place long. Even though it almost cost her her own life, Cassara continued her thievery but since she was always on the move, she was able to remain under the radar.

One night, while staying at an inn, a man with a dark cloak that kept his face hidden caught her attention. She didn't know what it was about him that intrigued her, and she decided to follow him as he departed that night. Following him from a distance she eventually realized as he ventured into the forest that the man was a Ranger. Gaining even more interest she continued to stalk him. She didn't know why she followed or how long she would keep it up, or what to do, but she remained hidden for almost three days, until the man approached her and made it known that he was aware that she had been stalking him. He invited her to join him for a meal. Reluctantly, she did. He caught on quickly that she wasn't very trusting and she was so quiet, almost speaking no words. He admitted to her that he hadn't realized he was being followed at first and that he was very impressed. He offered to take her under his wing and mentor and train her if she agreed to become his apprentice. Having nothing else going on in her life and feeling like she had nothing to really live for, she accepted. Then began her journey as a Ranger under the mentor of Aureus Ryder.

Cassara quickly fell in love with her life as a Ranger. And Aureus was the first person in her life to show true kindness toward her. He taught her how to have patience, and how to be in tune with all of her senses. Impressed with her ability to read and write (although it was rough due to not getting proper education) he helped her to improve those skills, and then taught her how to fluently read and speak other languages. She learned medicinal skills, animal training and caretaking, how to ride a horse, archery and sword fighting. As the years went along she learned how to manage her addiction to adrenaline rushes and how to be peaceful and calm. The job itself had many opportunities to give a balance of adrenaline and excitement as well. Working with Aureus, she finally became happy. She even found herself enjoying common hobbies like dancing and listening to music which she never cared for before.

As Rangers, Cassara and Aureus were constantly assigned to assist in battles and perform as scouts or help with strategy. One battle, that was part of a war between elves and men, the two Rangers were called to assist the elves. Aureus at the front lines, and Cassara in the rear with the archers to protect the Magical Forest, the reason for the war. After fighting in battle all day and all into the night, it was before just before daylight when the battle was won by the elves. But the victory was fleeting, for so many elven soldiers died in battle and it was recorded as one of the bloodiest battles in history. Among the large number of casualties was Aureus.

Found among the dead, Cassara cried out in devastation and horror, cradling his lifeless body.

Next to his body, she lay with him all day and night. Alone, she buried him. Alone, once again, without family. She walked away from his grave with his two best possessions. His dagger and his family ring which she came to cherish and would wear around her neck on a chain. For a year she remained a Ranger but worked and traveled alone. That year was spent in shock, mourning and deep sorrow. The pain of the loss of her mentor and friend was too much to bear and she lost the passion of being a Ranger and stopped caring about protecting others. Soon all she cared about was numbing her pain and forgetting her life.

Gradually, she slipped back into her ways of stealing. But stealing alone wasn't enough. She still wanted to be part of something, to belong. Previously, through her work as a Ranger, she had heard about an underground city that housed black markets, guilds, and professional criminals. Thieves were among the list that belonged to this underground city. Numbing herself from her conscience, she sought out members of this underground organization and demanded to be seen by their leader.

Normally, members of the Underground are recruited by the organizations leader Daegan. So for Cassara to ask to join them, she had to prove that she was skilled heartless, and worthy enough. After passing a series of tests she was allowed to become a member. Members must contract their lives to Daegan, binding themselves by being branded by Daegan himself using Dark Magic. As he branded a new member he would then have access to the knowledge of that persons worst fear and be able to use that fear against them should they ever try betray or abandon The Underground.

Becoming an official member of the organization, Cassara becomes a master thief. She would get hired for jobs to steal for Daegan or for other clients.
One night during a mission with other thieves, things go wrong and she ends up murdering someone in cold blood for the first time. Something she never thought she'd ever do. Unable to live with the shame she continued to push her emotions away and bury all feelings and just do. Soon, killing became easy enough as long as she didn't allow herself to feel. After a few years of thievery, Daegan recognized her abilities and potential and decided to put her to better use. Branding her body a second time, he made her an assassin. Which meant that any royal or noble person that wanted a dirty job done would hire Daegan to get the job done, and then Daegan would hire an assassin such as Cassara to actually kill the target.

This is the lowest part of Cassaras life. She became so numb to her life that she eventually stopped getting adrenaline rushes. Going through the motions, training, hunting... killing. Until one assignment. It was when she was assigned to murder a newborn baby that she finally snapped. Her conscience overpowering her, a wave of multiple emotions flood over her and she is reminded of Aureus. Leaving the baby unharmed, her mission undone, she returns to the Underground speaking to no one. Nothing but anger, shamefulness, regret and impulsivity in her mind, she took a knife and used it to cut through her skin, slicing and mutilating the brandings. Leaving the pieces of skin on her bed, she grabbed her very few belongings and left the Underground before anyone could figure out she never finished her mission. But by breaking a contract with Daegan and abandoning her life as an assassin meant that she was on the run. Because once you commit your life and body to Daegan, you are property to him and he doesn't let go of his property.

Cassara now lives in hiding, living in continuing shame and regret she is always looking for opportunities to do something right in her life, even though she knows no amount of right doings will ever make up for the amount of people she has killed.

(there is more to her life after this but for role-play purposes I feel like this is the best place to stop)

If you read this entire bio I am very impressed and hope that maybe Cassara is interesting enough to role-play with as well.
