Behind Closed Doors: Lysella and her dad- Drabble

Lysella has been raised by an unnamed father and nothing is known about her mother. It’s possible that either her mother died of unknown causes or her parents just simply split up. Either way, she was stuck with her dad raising her. At first he was an awesome dad until he got a promotion for his job. He became too political even for her and his job would lead him to take all his stress out on her and eventually some nights, he wouldn’t even come home. This led Lysella to eventually resent her father. He’d talk down to her, degrade her, tell her she wasn’t fit to be his daughter especially after she stopped meddling in voting affairs.

This also led Lysella to become a tad depressed. Every day, even though she was hurting inside, she never let it show. She would always give everyone a fake smile and they just believed that she was happy. Lysella would still attend parties like she normally did but only to escape the pain she felt. In her eyes, her father was no longer a father. She felt as if she had no one to talk to not even her friends since she knew that if they had the chance, they’d paint her in a bad light just like everyone else.

Lysella became so obsessed with trying to be something that she wasn’t. She kept up the appearance of her being happy even though she was not. She acted as if she was the same old person but the truth is, she had changed and it was all because of the way her father treated her. She and her father don’t talk much anymore because his job keeps him so busy and she kept hoping that at the end of each day, her father would come home and spend time with her like all the other fathers do with their daughters, but with her father, that wasn’t the case. Lysella often wondered whether or not her father even wanted her around, whether or not he wanted her in his life. The pain of not knowing, the pain of how he’d treat her when he was around, sometimes it was a bit much for her.

It got to the point where she didn’t enjoy even the simplest things on her home planet anymore, she didn’t enjoy going to work like she used to, and the parties she’d attend, she’d now attend them to drink alcohol to drink her pain away. It was the only thing that would make her feel any better. She wasn’t a heavy drinker though. At this point, she didn’t really care about anything even though she appeared on the outside to be perfectly fine because she’d act like it even though she was falling apart inside. Today, Lysella and her dad aren’t even on speaking terms and they don’t really have much of a relationship anymore because of how he treats Lysella. To Lysella, her father is dead to her.
