Bio: They were a family of lions, a lineage of hard workers and loyalty, a heritage of strict rules and great success. So, where did Leo go wrong? He was raised just like his sister, though the pressure was much harsher on him. He was supposed to do well in school, get accepted to a prestigious college, go on to be a doctor in something. There was a lot on his plate and he had suddenly decided that he couldn’t eat it all. Leo got cold feet. As a child, Leo had done as his parents wanted, had stayed inside to do homework and extra tutoring sessions, had watched from the window as others played outside. He got occasionally picked on, was called a nerd and worse, was excluded from so much. It hurt him, the isolation scared him, being made fun of made him…angry. So as the world continued to turn and time went on, Leo began to carve his own path. It was oddly a simple thing to achieve, popularity that is. All it took was being a bit quick witted and switching to contacts. He had managed to convince his parents that contacts would make it easier for him to focus in classes or whatever. Leo started to snap back at his bullies, come back at them with smart comments, and luckily for him, it landed him laughs. They thought he was funny. Truthfully, Leo was just lucky they took his words as a joke. And he continued to joke, call people names and sometimes they would laugh, sometimes they would cry but other people would still laugh and that’s what Leo started to favor. And then he found swimming. Strength. Now he had humor, a sport he was good at, and still a great class ranking.
There was the Leonardo that his parents wanted to see at home, and then the Leo that people knew at school. During the day, he was popular, roaming around the halls like he owned them, laughing and joking around with his friends while barely passing by with A’s in his classes with the help of some minor cheating and major bullying, forcing out help from some of the “nerds” he used to also be. During the night, he was a waiter at his parent’s restaurant, praying that no one from school came in to eat, keeping his head down and mumbling out questions to customers to take their orders. At school, he pretended to be so confident, so bold, so strong and proud. But at home, he did as he was told, kept quiet, tried to fulfill his parents’ dreams with his tail in between his legs. His sister was doing just fine, doing so well with her studies, having so many offers from such high-ranking colleges. And Leo…was doing his best. It was conflicting. He enjoyed the attention, the popularity, the strength, but he knew it wasn’t true. Leo didn’t like seeing people cry from his harsh words, didn’t like sometimes physically bullying people by shoving them around. He had gotten into a couple fist fights that led to detention but luckily, he managed to lie to his parents and say it was just an after school studying program. They questioned him about his bruises and cuts but he always managed to brush it off. Some excuse about accidently getting hurt during swim practice. Leo had become a bit of a “bad boy.” But he knew, deep down, that if someone snapped back at him, if someone really tried to fight him, he would be scrambling away with all of his dignity left behind. Luckily for him, no one had yet to challenge him like that. Luckily for him, he could continue to pretend to be a lion like the rest of his family.
