short: With a deep breath, she took a step forward. The world spun around her as she struggled to keep her balance. It felt like she'd been punched in the chest, the air leaving her body as her breathing quivered. Meiko blinked a few times, trying her best to regain control of her vision. How unfair of life was it to deceive her like this? That the day would be fine and she would be able to live and move on in peace. Of course not, instead, she found herself with tears prickling in her eyes in the bathroom of a party. The music boomed loudly outside of the bathroom, so close yet, so far. It all became background noise as she forced herself towards the sink. The brunette looked at herself in the mirror. Her eyes pleaded for her to leave already, but no. She set herself up for failure and she had to pay the price. With a quick flick of her wrist, she turned the sink on. Letting the water splash and take control of her senses. With shaky hands, she splashed the water against her face. Droplets falling and crashing around, Meiko did it a few times- wanting the pain and agony to end already. She forced herself to focus on breathing. 1,2,3. 1,2,3. It wasn't long until she found herself, okay. Things were fine enough, they were fine. She snatched the towel off the hanger and wiped her face. Her forced smile told a thousand words as she left the bathroom.

long: Fraus sat in the chair, the heels of their boots clicking against the floor as they looked down. Orange eyes shining bright in delight as they smiled softly at the shaking man in front of them. He was another human, around 20 years old, and dressed in a simple tee and jeans. He had called for them, begged them to meet him today at his house. Today was special and he had something important to tell them. They adorned themselves in a white sundress, still choosing to wear their long black boots. It was a special day after all, so they had to dress to impress. The man continued to mutter and choke on his own words as all they did was watch. Eventually, what seemed to be an eternity, it came to an end. The man pressed his hand against hers and spoke.

“Dolora,” He started off, Fraus noticed the quiver in his voice, how his eyes wavered away when she looked into his. “We, we’ve been friends for quite some time and the truth is.” He stopped again when Fraus got up from their chair. Their face looked softer as they grabbed onto both of his hands. Fraus could hear the man’s heart racing, their blood pumping to keep up with their anxiety, their fear, their adrenaline. It was all so exhilarating, they tilted their head and fluttered their eyelids. The man’s breathing got faster as he mustered the last bit of courage he had. “I love you, more than a friend. I want to be with you.”

The perfect scenario, two friends who spent night and day together. Finally confessing their feelings for one another. A story that ends with a happy ending as the nerdy, quiet guy ends up with the beautiful woman who forever changed his life. What did said woman gain from this? Fake hope of happy endings of frockling in the fields and having a happy family down the line that your dear husband can go on and on about how he was just the “ugly duckling” compared to the “beautiful swan.” The tale of two different yet lonely people who got together and found the true meaning of love!

It's pathetic, isn’t it?
Fraus leans in close, pressing their forehead to his. So many opportunities, so many different ways to go through with this. Their own heart raced in anticipation as finally they spoke. “I wish I could say the same. How wonderful you are, how kind and generous you have been to me. Yet, my heart will never belong to you.” They could hear the soft whimper coming from the man as he tried to pull his hands away. Decades of being alive made it child’s play for them as they held him there.

“I, I don-” The man started to speak, but Fraus gripped onto his hands far tighter than needed as he tried desperately to pull away.

Fraus looked up, their eyes filled with tears as they whispered, “For once could you let me speak? For months you tormented me, kept me silent, but it’s my turn now.”

“Dol-”

“Please, let me speak.” It came off as a plea, she could feel his body become weak as his emotions began to overtake his body. Sadness lingered with confusion, anger and despair transverse through his veins trying to get desperately into his hands so that he could push against her. But that sweet voice, those gentle eyes that pierced through his eyes betrayed him, giving him hope. “You’re my best friend, you mean nothing but the best. Yet, you never considered how I felt. I know from the start you wanted to use me. Wanted me for other reasons and I stook around because I was desperate to find a place in this world.” The tears began to fall and their words choked, their grip on his hands loosened, but still threatened as they continued. “You are a spineless coward, a liar, you never cared for who I am. You wanted to see what you could gain from me.

“Dolora, that isn’t true-” The man screamed in pain as he felt the grip change to his wrists. Sharp nails dug deep into the skin causing red to prickle down onto the floor. Fraus’ face changed into anger as the man finally shut up, his body shaking in fear.

“I told you to let me speak.” They said, each word corresponding with their nails digging deeper into his skin. He bit his lip, the obvious fear of even muttering an apology clear as day. “Again, you make it clear that you don’t care for how I feel or what I have to say. You’re swine, but I still can’t bring myself to hate you. Why do you do this to me? After all the sacrifices I made for you?” Fraus let go of their wrist as they dropped to the floor. Crying ugly tears as they dug their nails into the floor instead. They cursed, screamed, sobbed into the floor as they felt him pull them into a hug. They continued to cry, feeling his hands on their back. Desperate to calm them down.

He was fighting off his own tears as he held onto them, “Dolora, I’m sorry. It’s my fault isn’t it.” He said, ignoring the sting of his wrists. “If I only, If I, I should be better. I f***ed up big time and I hurt you. I’m sorry.” Fraus didn’t bother responding, they continued to cry as they muttered to themselves.

The two sat there for a while, forced to listen to their sobs. The blood from his wrist finally after so long, Fraus got up, bowing in response as they headed towards the door. They looked at the man who still sat on the floor in utter despair. His eyes screaming for her to come back, for her to leave and that he still loved her. “L-let’s talk more about this tomorrow, ok?” Fraus said, their voice barely above a whisper as all he could do was nod. Muttering a small “yeah” as he looked down onto the floor. They left his apartment, standing in front of the door still.

It took a minute before the man began to sob.

Fraus smiled again, running off from the door as their smile became a giggle. The giggle turned into a laugh when they were finally far enough. The joy was almost too much to handle and without thinking, their hand moved up, turning the now smiling mask to the other side.
