Catarina ha capito quanto Alec sia importante per Magnus e nonostante tutto, lei crede che Magnus non debba ancora arrendersi con lui.
La maggior parte degli altri amici di Magnus farebbe la stessa cosa, ma per incontrare loro in un vicolo buio e massacrarlo di botte come se non ci fosse un domani. Catarina invece, lo invita a casa di Magnus, mandandogli un messaggio dal cellulare dell'amico (il che non è cosa facile, dato che Magnus lo ha impostato sui caratteri Etruschi), fingendosi lui che invita Alec a casa sua per vedere come sta.
Lei ritiene che dopo che Magnus è praticamente quasi morto per correre a salvarlo, Alec dovrà per forza comportarsi con decenza, sennò lo picchia lei stessa.

Catarina si nasconde in una stanza con Carlie -May Sun- e fa un incantesimo per vedere attraverso il muro e sentire tutto quello che si dicono.
Naturalmente, Magnus non sa nulla.

About three days after the appearance of baby Carlie, something rather upsetting happened to Magnus, in that bad moment he was having.
Finding out that Alexander is going to marry Lydia Branwell put of convenience, just as Clary did, in the attempt to cope for his parents' mistake, was a tad too much for him. In the past three months, Magnus grew very fond of him and it was clearly mutual.
What probably hurt him the most in the whole matter though, was the fact that Alec explicitly said to him that he believes his happiness depends more on being a Shadowhunter than to be with him. It really hurt him and broke his heart, mainly because he thought they could build something, that they could be in love.

After that conversation with Alec, Magnus came back to his apartment, left Carlie to Ragnor, acting surprisingly sharp towards his oldest friend and left, without any warning or hint on where he was going.

Being it ridiculously unlike him, Ragnor got rather concerned, fearing he could do something crazy in that mood, thus contacted various Downwolders of the city, known to be Magnus' friends, to check of they know something, at least what could have caused that reaction in his Warlock best friend.

24 hours after Magnus left, his apartment became something like an operative centre of research. It has never been so crowded, outside parties that is. Mainly Downworlders of all races, genders and some even coming from other parts of the world.
It is in moments like this, that it is evident how much Magnus is important to many people, especially the ones like Ragnor, who always act as if they couldn't stand him, as in truth, they are probably those who hold him the dearest.

Il giorno dopo aver trovato la misteriosa bambina dai capelli rossi, Magnus viene contattato da Robert Lightwood con la richiesta di venire a rinfrescare gli incantesimi di difesa dell'Istituto, dopo l'attacco di un Dimenticato.
Guarda caso, da quando ha iniziato a provare qualcosa per Alec, andare a fare servizi all'Istituto non è più la peggior disgrazia che possa capitare in una giornata, la cosa lo mette di un certo buon umore.

Dato che Ragnor rifiuta categoricamente ogni contatto con la bambina urlante, come l'ha soprannominata lui, Magnus è costretto a portarsela dietro, e la cosa non gli dispiace.
Non ha ancora idea che si tratti di Carlie e gli iniziava a balenare in testa l'idea di tenersela, se i genitori non escono fuori. Non c'è bisogno di dire, già si è iniziato a fare tutti i filmini mentali, lui, Alec e la bimba, famigliola felice, vacanze al mare...

Ad ogni modo, si prepare come al solito in maniera impeccabile, prende la bimba -a cui non ha ancora dato un nome, dato che non sa neanche se resterà con lui o se i genitori verranno a reclamarla- e va a piedi all'Istituto. Non prende un portale dato che teme potrebbe far male alla piccola.
Appena arrivato, lui si guarda intorno per vedere a chi può lasciarla un attimo mentre lui fa le sue magie.
