Short about S.T.A.L.K.E.R. universe.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. universe is mostly a game and book universe , influenced by the book , known as Roadside Picnic and withh all the events tied with Chernobyl Exclusion Zone - a place of ecological disaster since the explosion of the 4th reactor of Chernobyl Nuclear Powerplant in 1986, though after that event the group of USSR scientists started to work there , creating a secret laboratories , known as X-Labs(like X-16,X-18,X-10 , etc)which were creating different projects , like supersoldiers and some weapons , plus devices that would be able to create a psy-distorbtion pulses-energetic pulses , that were able to affect the mind and reprogramm those or destroy completely .
But that's not the worst thing , the worst thing was their test with trying to contact the noosphere-earth's informational field and rewrite it , trying to delete all negative factors , like cruelty , greed and so on but it all went out of the control and a huge ammount of Noosphere energy hitted the local biosphere ,turning everything in a 60 -killometers of Chernobyl Exclusion Zone-place filled with mutants , radiation , psy-disturbtion areas , anomalies and so on .
But after 2006 it turned out that anomalies are also able to turn some stuff , like dirt , trash or flesh , that got into it into the strange items with it's all positive and negative effects , known from now on as artifacts, and those things turned to be a valuable objects for scientists , due to some of them having quite an interesting effects , like increasing regeneration , creating gravity fields around it user or protecting from radiation ,of course , those objects turned to be valuable for a black market and could be solled ouside of the Zone for millions or even billions of dollars.
And of course that brought a lot of people who would like to test their luck in there , hide from law or anything else ,known from now on as stalkers-individuals who sneak hrugh the Zone and try to survive in that hell , while trying to get a lot of money or achieve their own goals , not to mention the different stalker fractions like Duty- formal Ukranian troopers who were left by their allies , that united with some stalkers nd follow their idea of destroying the Zone , Freedom - group of anarchists that want to make it their own country and give a free passage to everyone . Merc Syndicate- a mysterious group of bounty hunters that getting a huge ammount of US and Europian weapons , that following the orders of more mysterious clients.Scientists -enogh said.Ukraine Militaries-that trying to block the entrance and take control over the place , though having corrupted members in their ranks,.Loners-lone stalkers that have no ideology and follow their own philosophi , rarely uniting and or walking in groups , Bandits-thugs and USSR criminals that entered the Zone in order to hide from law and known for robbing others and so on.

The Dark One(Metro Canon)

The Dark One (alternatively baby Dark One or little Dark One) is a major character in Metro: Last Light who is the presumed last survivor of the Dark Ones, and an ally to Artyom.
Appearance

Unlike adults of his kind he has red skin, green eyes and a mouth. At first he is nude like all of his kin, but he finds some ragged clothes in the level The Crossing which consists of pants, a cape made from a shirt, a bag, and some wrappings on his legs and hands. While in Polis he disguises himself as a young child in a raincoat too big for him.
Traits & Personality

Aside from the characteristic telepathy, the Dark One also demonstrates abilities such as allowing Artyom to see the outlines of enemies through walls and ghost outlines of phantoms. He is also able to not only read the minds of humans and mutants alike, but also their intentions and whether or not they are good or evil. He seems to be intrigued by the way the people of Metro live and he is also shocked by the fact that before the war, people lived in such high skyscrapers. He tends to liken himself to the human race, collecting clothes, disguising as a child, and even waving cheerfully to Rangers in Polis.

He is also a helpful companion as he finds Artyom filters, ammo, medkits or warns him about danger, and on the level Bridge he protects Artyom by distracting a Demon.

According to the Dark One, he has access to all the memories of his race. The extent of these memories is quite ambiguous given the fact he knows of how and when Artyom received the ability to withstand their telepathy without going insane or dying, yet didn't seem to know about World War III until he extracted the information from Artyom's memories, though this is probably due to the Dark Ones being either mutants spawned after the war, or experiments created before it and kept in a facility (thus being ignorant of the events on the surface). Artyom theorizes in a journal entry that young Dark Ones 'sleep' underground for a time after their birth, absorbing memories of their race, and the missile strike awoke the little Dark One before his memories were fully formed.
Abilities
Metro Last Light

The Dark One has a lot of supernatural powers, including:

Shadow Walk - The Dark One changes into a puff of black smoke and moves rapidly.

Dark One Vision - While using this the Dark One (and Artyom thanks to him) can see through solid objects and identify enemies. It also shows weak points of certain enemies.

Personality sensing - This comes along with Dark One Vision, it shows one attitude toward Artyom. Friendly dispositions (Khan) appear as silhouettes with green lines (nervous system), neutrals (Miller) appear as yellow lines and enemies (Watchers) appear with red lines.

Memory exchange - By touching anyone, the Dark One can either take over or give back memories.

Telepathy - The Dark One can "speak" with any being by touching them. This does not apply to Artyom: they can contact each other no matter the distance.

Illusion Generation - The Dark One is able to take the appearance of a little boy to camouflage himself among humans. This is likely a telepathic illusion.

Because he is not an adult, the Dark One hasn't reached his full potential yet. He cannot use his powers all the time, and will often comment that he's "tired".

Khan(Metro Canon)

You reap what you sow, Artyom: force answers force, war breeds war, and death only brings death. To break this vicious circle one must do more than act without any thought or doubt. „

— Khan

Khan Aitmatov (Russian: Хан Айтматов, pronounced Han Aytmatov) is a wandering soldier, philosopher, and occasional associate of the Rangers. He appears only in the first novel and the games.
Metro 2033

As the player discovers, Khan in the video game is a mysterious character, though he is even more so in the novel. He is well familiar with the various paranormal or mystical phenomena in the metro and possesses a very powerful and charismatic personality which even lead to Artyom wondering whether Khan was a Wizard. With his aid, Artyom manages to survive a trip through a ghost-occupied and very deadly tunnel. The questions Khan asks Artyom will echo in his mind multiple times.

In the video game, Khan and Artyom first travel though a tunnel where "neither man nor beast walk," as Khan puts it. The tunnel is full of ghosts, and Artyom discovers the rumors of the 'singing pipes' to be true. Bourbon also references the 'singing pipes' upon leaving Riga Station as "just a load of bullsh*t". Khan is revealed to have been the only surviving member of a group of men guarding a barricade near the end of the tunnel a long time ago.

Upon arriving at said barricade, Khan tells Artyom to remain silent and stay behind his back. Khan begins to chant something that makes the ghosts of his former comrades move and allow them to pass. He asks him not to question what he chanted and to forget seeing or hearing what he did. During the Ghosts level, Khan gives Artyom several survival tips, and speaks about a variety of legends of how everything came to be. He is last encountered at Sparta Base.

Khan seems to be one of the few people that believe that the Dark Ones have a right to live. He is also notable for believing that nothing in the world truly is evil: it is just its nature, and it is not man's place to judge.

Khan's chapters of the games explores the more mystical and darker parts of the metro, featuring ghosts, deadly anomalies and hordes of mutants attacking human settlements. Khan's chapters are often considered some of the most, if not the most eerie and scary part of the games.
Metro: Last Light

Khan is the first person Artyom meets in the game, waking Artyom up from a bad dream as he is sleeping in D6. Khan tells Artyom that he spotted a surviving Dark One in the ruins of the Botanical Gardens. As Khan is telling Artyom about the Dark One, Ulman passes through the hallway and glances into Artyom's room and berates Khan, telling him to leave D6. Ulman agrees to take Khan and Artyom to talk to Miller. Khan informs Miller about the Dark One and proposes that him and Artyom should go and look for it, Miller agrees but assigns a sniper along, his daughter Anna to kill the Dark One. Khan objects and is restrained and escorted out by the guards on Miller's orders, Artyom and Anna continue the mission on their own.

Later Khan, along with Hanza police, saves Artyom and Anna at the exit of Oktobraskaya. Upon being released from quarantine, Khan takes Artyom to a supernatural place in the Metro which he calls the River of Fate. The River of Fate brings much of Artyom's deeper memories to surface. Artyom is shown a vision of the Dark One on a train and he and Artyom set out to save him. Upon reaching the train, Artyom jumps aboard to save the Dark One as Khan is seen being led down a different path by the rails.

Artyom brings the Dark One to Saint Basil's Cathedral where Khan and Miller are waiting for him. Miller is about to kill the Dark One but Khan convinces him otherwise. Khan and Artyom are shown a vision of the Dark Ones trapped in D6 and urges Miller to open the door to set them free. Khan, Artyom, the Dark One and Miller travel to Polis, where the peace conference between the Metro factions is being held. Khan interrupts Comrade Moskvin mid-speech, calling him a liar and uses the Dark One to open Moskvin's mind and reveal Korbut's plans to attack D6. Discovering that the Red Line assault force is already in route to D6, Khan joins Miller, Artyom and the rest of the Rangers in defending the bunker from the Red onslaught. In the C'est la Vie ending, he perishes with the rest of the Rangers when Artyom detonates the bomb to destroy D6 while in the Redemption ending, he leaves the Ranger and disappears without any reason.

In the Chronicles Pack DLC level, Khan and Ulman, the player, travel to Polyanka station after blowing up the train from the Chase level, by going through an abandoned tunnel. Strange things begin happening to Ulman in the tunnel with many ghostly visions appearing to him. After passing an anomaly, they enter an air vent, but are forced to retreat when a huge horde of hungry rats attack them. By using a torch and a drum with fuel in it, they make a wall of fire between themselves and the rats. Ulman is able to jump-start some of the electrical devices around them to atract the anomaly nearby, which roasts the rat horde and gives Khan and Ulman a clear route to Polyanka. In Polyanka, they see the ghosts of some of Khan's old companions, as well as a vision of a younger Khan and his companions defending Polyanka from Nosalises. The vision ends with Khan getting wounded after blowing up the airlock and he is forced to close the gate on his friends, trapping them inside with the Nosalises. Khan tells Ulman that he hopes that he will never have to make such a decision again.
In the NovelEdit

Unlike in the game, Khan does not play a large part in the novel. First mentioned by Zhenya as the magician in the metro, Khan helps Artyom at a diseased station before escorting Artyom and Ace to the next station. After a Nazi attack, Khan, Artyom and Ace are seperated from one another, but Khan does find Artyom's home station and gets a message to Artyom regarding his decisions in life as well as Artyom's mission.

According to Artyom, in the English translation of the novel Khan, looked very similar to his in-game model. In the novel "the man was over fifty, but he looked surprisingly fresh and robust. His arms, which were supporting Artyom [at the time of his description], were firm and didn't once tremble with fatigue the whole way back. His short hair was turning grey and his little sculpted beard surprised Artyom - the man looked too well groomed for the metro, especially given the godforsaken place where it seemed this man (Khan) lived". Also in the novel, Khan uses a "strange gun", which could quite well be the Helsing from the game.

In the novel, it is implied that Khan makes Artyom nervous, considering the fact Artyom wanted the conversation with him to end as soon as possible.

It appears Khan has a gift when it comes to convincing people to do something: when he and Artyom were in a diseased station, Artyom witnessed a man was who was being prepared for execution, having been suspected of carrying the disease. Artyom tried to save the man but Khan stopped him with just the look on his face and a few words. Also when the people of the station were confused on what to do after this event, Khan convinced them to leave the station with him and Artyom without an argument, and lastly Khan managed to scare Ace into surrendering to Khan when the latter aimed his pistol at Artyom.
Personality
“ Khan was an unusual man...but I suppose he was also a man of his time, moving between the dark and the light, searching for answers buried in the rubble. „

— Artyom

Khan considers himself "a wolf among jackals" and considers Artyom a "wolf pup". Unlike most other characters in the series, he seems to be quite spiritual, and is acquainted with many of the mystical or supernatural phenomena found throughout the Metro system. He knows a few hymns to repel ghosts, and knows how to avoid electrical anomalies and use their motion-sensing tendencies to his advantage. He also speaks cryptically to Artyom throughout the game, and one of the things Khan says will come to Artyom's mind depending on whether or not Artyom has been acting morally throughout the game.

He is quite charismatic and knows his way around words, and speaks like a true philosopher at times. He generally accepts the present situation no matter how grim or hopeless it may be, which could also indicate that he is in atonement with the new and hostile reality that he and the rest of mankind now live in.

Khan does not believe in one universal time for all Metro system, instead believing that the Sun was the only worthy representative of Time and that once the humans had cut ties with the Sun, continuation of keeping the same time everywhere was meaningless. Furthermore, Khan believes that for some people time goes by faster (or slower) than for the others and by that standards people should time their own time.

Strelok (S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Canon)

I don't know whether I was right or wrong, I guess I'll never know... But I made it. And I guess I should be thankful for that.
- Strelok after destroying the C-Consciousness. ”

Strelok (Стрелок), also known as the Marked One (Mеченый), is the protagonist and player character of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl. He also appears as the main antagonist of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky and a main character in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat. He was intended to be the protagonist of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2, but little is known about the upcoming game.
One of the most experienced and capable stalkers in the Zone, Strelok and his associates are some of the few people that managed to reach the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant and live to tell the tale. He begun accumulating experience early, as he was one of the first people to enter the Zone and bring back artifacts.

During one of his excursions, he found maps of the underground city under Pripyat. Realizing that this would allow him to bypass the Brain Scorcher and reach the power plant, he gathered his men and set out. This first raid to the center of the Zone was unsuccessful - while Ghost, Fang and Strelok infiltrated the Sarcophagus, they were stopped from reaching the Monolith Control Center by a code-locked door.[6]

During their retreat, the Common Consciousness became aware of their presence virtually on its doorstep. Furious, it unleashed a massive emission in an attempt to kill them. Strelok was badly hurt in the process and put in the care of Doctor by his two friends.[7]

Shadow of Chernobyl

Strelok is the main protagonist of the game. Having survived the crash of a Death truck, Strelok was rescued by an anonymous stalker and Sidorovich. With little memory left, Strelok, dubbed as the Marked One as a reference to his S.T.A.L.K.E.R. tattoo, is only left with a PDA entry reading "Kill Strelok". With no other choice, the Marked One, unaware of his true identity, begins to search for Strelok within the Zone. The Marked One follows the information from contact to contact, tracing Strelok's past movements and learning more about his supposed assassination target; the more he learns about him, the more he recovers scattered memories.

After assisting Professor Sakharov in his research of the Yantar area, the Marked One is able to secure a fully functional Psy-protection device that will shield him from the damaging effects of the Kaymanov emitter in Lab X-19 and, later, the Brain Scorcher. He finally finds Ghost's corpse in the laboratory X16 after disabling the troublesome Kaymanov emitter and killing the Controller responsible for his demise. When Strelok manages to escape Lab X16 with the documents from Ghost, he learns of Guide, a member of his group. Upon finding Guide, Guide tells him about Doc, who was in the group's hideout in the Agroprom underground. After making his way there, the Marked One trips an explosive tripmine which knocks him unconscious. When he awakes, the Marked One sees Doc, who tells him that the Monolith is just a lie - it was made in a laboratory inside the Sarcophagus - and of a decoder that Fang assembled, hidden in a hotel room in Pripyat. Doc also informs him that he is actually the stalker called Strelok, his earlier intended target.

Now, with Strelok remembering the most important information, he proceeds north to the Brain Scorcher, where he manages to overcome numerous Monolith troops to deactivate the Brain Scorcher and then makes his way to Pripyat, where he finds Fang's grave and the decoder that Fang hid in an abandoned hotel.

With the aid of a few expert Stalkers, Strelok fights his way to the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, fortified by fanatical and dedicated veteran and elite Monolith troops; and under attack by Spetsnaz agents accompanied by APCs and Hind Gunships.

Against all odds, Strelok fights through the hordes of Monolith soldiers, with the Military nipping at his heels, and manages to enter Reactor #4 in spite of the impending Third Emission. Whilst in the Sarcophagus, Strelok faces off with Monolith's most elite troops, and with considerable effort in the heavily irradiated areas, manages to neutralize them. Ignoring repeated, temptuous calls from the Wish Granter, he finds a strange, code-locked door that he is able to open with Fang's special Decoder (it has been speculated that this apparently must be the same door that Strelok's group failed to unlock previously). After defeating more of Monolith's elite agents, he destroys the generators which powered the Monolith, thereby destroying it. A hologram appears in place of the destroyed Monolith, a worker of the Common Consciousness experiment. The hologram answers some of Strelok's questions, such as the purpose of the Death trucks and C-Consciousness' ulterior motive. The hologram then prompts Strelok to either join them or be killed. Strelok chooses the latter and is forced to fight his way through still more elite Monolith troopers while teleporting from one area to another at the top of the old plant. Finally, Strelok is teleported to a central laboratory that contained stasis pods of multiple people that sacrificed themselves to cover up the deepest secrets of the Zone, the C-Consciousness. Using his AKM-74/2U, Strelok shoots the pods that support the C-Consciousness subjects, effectively destroying it.
Clear Sky

Strelok makes an appearance in the prequel Clear Sky where he is the main antagonist. After being rescued by the secret Clear Sky faction, Scar, a standalone mercenary, is forced to track down his group, eventually learning of his existence after searching Strelok's hideout in the Agroprom Underground.

With the help of Sakharov, Scar manages to track Strelok down to the Red Forest. Strelok is briefly in plain sight, but immediately escapes before Scar can apprehend or kill him. Lebedev, the Clear Sky leader, then exhorts Scar to stop Strelok, and Strelok responds with death threats if the pursuit of him does not cease. After chasing him to a motorized drawbridge, Scar must fend off an ambush launched by Loners hired by Strelok. Strelok takes advantage of the confusion to escape, blowing up the tunnel leading to the Brain Scorcher behind him. He assures Scar that it is no longer possible to follow him, and states that he will reach the center, whatever it takes.

However, unbeknownst to Strelok, Scar and the Clear Sky veterans managed to cut through the abandoned city of Limansk and the Limansk Hospital, another direct way to the power plant. Strelok is in the vicinity, defending himself from both the Monolith guardians and Clear Sky. With the help of the prototype EM1 Rifle, Scar disables the psy-blocker device Strelok is wearing - without the aid of the device, Strelok cannot survive the potent psi emissions for long, and Lebedev believes that the activity in the Zone will stabilize after Strelok is defeated. Fighting his way through swarming Monolith soldiers, Scar uses the Gauss Rifle to disrupt the device and succeeds. After Strelok is defeated, readings are taken to see if the stabilization is beginning. Suddenly, an unexpected and massive Third Emission occurs, reaching levels far beyond the norm. Everyone within proximity to the plant, Clear Sky or otherwise, is hit and begins succumbing to the effects of the emission. During the closing cut-scene, they can be seen crowded in the corridors of the NPP, shaking unnaturally, whilst video screens flash of historic images of the NPP with distorted black and white images. These signs foreshadow that those not already killed outright by the blast are about to experience a worse fate: brainwashed to become part of the Monolith forces; or, like Strelok, becoming unwitting agents of the Common Consciousness. Sometime after this; Strelok is rescued from the Death Truck and taken to Sidorovich.
Call of PripyatEdit

Strelok is curiously absent through most of the early going of the game. Later on, stashes belonging to him can be found via a UAV module in the Yanov area. He apparently abandoned his SGI 5K used in Clear Sky, leaving it for Fang, but his comrade obviously never recovered it. The player can recover the rifle and Strelok's note - as well as a note he left for Ghost and a note Fang left him prior to their fateful trip.

He finally appears in Pripyat as a massive Fourth Emission strikes. It is here that he offers to provide the Military with information that will help them take control of the zone and destroy it. While he does not state to the player or Kovalsky what he has done, he wonders aloud if he made the right choice. He also offers insight that explains what happened to the helicopters of Operation Fairway, thus solving the game's main mystery and allowing a new helicopter evacuation mission to be called to Pripyat. The player can turn the notes over to him, winning his gratitude - and also extending his durability and efficiency in the game's finale.

Strelok aids the Military during their escape of Pripyat, cutting through the gathered horde of zombies, escorted by the group to the Prometheus Cinema where rescue awaits. The game has two ending 'portions' dedicated to him - one where Strelok survives the evacuation, and joins a team dedicated to researching the Zone as an 'advisor', and another where he dies, taking the secrets of the Zone with him.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2

Strelok was confirmed to appear in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 as the main protagonist. Nothing much else however, is known about his role in the sequel.
