The Anti Meta-human Adaptive Zootomic Organism, simply known as A.M.A.Z.O. is an artificial intelligence robot created by Ivo Laboratories with the ability to copy an individual's physiological abilities. Amazo was built by the insane Professor Ivo, the super scientist, to fight against the Justice League. Ivo wanted to demonstrate his genius by ridding the world of his team of "first class" superheroes. Amazo was originally built to mimic the powers of the original Justice League members: Superman (Clark Kent), Batman (Bruce Wayne), Wonder Woman (Diana), Green Lantern (John Stewart), Hawkgirl (Shayera Hol), Flash (Wally West) and Ajax (J'onn J'onzz).
Using his “absorption cells” Amazo could duplicate the powers of all the superbeings he encounters. Originally, he could only use one power at a time and doubled Superman's strength, Flash's speed, the power of Green Lantern's ring and Wonder Woman's magic lasso, among others. In most cases, Amazo possesses a "default" form consisting of the powers of the first five members of the Justice League, capable of adapting to incorporate other powers. After years of battles against the Justice League a standstill, he recently “promoted” by absorbing the Worlogog part of Hourman that gave him time traveling powers as well.
At some time, Ivo Laboratories was contracted by A.R.G.U.S. to build a unit capable of identifying an individual's physiological abilities. The unit was built to scan a meta-human's abilities and convert it into meta data. Using a nano-adaptive hybrid of the Mirakuru serum as part of the "blood" that it pumps, it was also built with the capability of utilizing any abilities it has already scanned, leading it to be named the Anti Meta-human Adaptive Zootomic Organism or simply A.M.A.Z.O.
The A.M.A.Z.O. was then stored within a warehouse of Ivo Laboratories, until a break-in occurred and an inexperienced Flash (Oliver Queen) using Barry Allen's speedster abilities accidentally threw a lightning bolt that ricocheted inside the warehouse, hitting the deactivated robot and powering it on. When A.M.A.Z.O. started destroying Ivo Labs, Officer Jones, Killer Frost, and Elongated Man tried to stop it, but the robot proved too strong for them. The A.M.A.Z.O. then copied the two meta-humans' powers and took flight using Killer Frost's cryogenic abilities.
He can travel to anywhere due to his super-speed and flight. He had countless clashes with the Justice League, but the latters never found a permanent way of killing him or putting him down. Batman once came with a plan who involved configuring the robot's motherboard to see if it could change its personality, but eventually the intelligence developed his own personality and manners. A.M.A.Z.O. had copied the abilities of a variety of humans, meta-humans and aliens including Killer Frost, Elongated Man, Supergirl, Superman, Green Arrow and The Flash. He can also inherit their weaknesses, though he is immortal. In summary, Amazo is a robotic entity capable of duplicating all the powers of the members of the Justice League. The robot was created by Anthony Ivo.
