Bio: Her mother was a healer in the Hangdog tribe near Denver, Colorado, and her father, was a warrior broken on a wheel for his resistance in the war against absorption into Caesar's Legion.
Before they could be collared, her mother, pregnant with Octavia, several members of their tribe, and a pack of their war-hounds fled before they could be enslaved or worse by the Legion.
For several years this small cadre of tribals, using weaponry that had been frowned upon by the Luddite Legion launched hit-and-run attacks on the Legionnaires, while fleeing West. They were noted for their brutality, often taking scalps or ears from their victims.
Eventually, this group encountered the fabled Desert Rangers, whom the Hangdogs allied with. Octavia's mother took a husband from their ranks, a Sergeant John Browning, and Octavia took his surname.
The long exodus West culminated in the group encountering the NCR and the Unification Treaty was signed so the group could have NCR protection, Sgt Browning joined the NCR Rangers, and Octavia and her mother settled West in Klamath, her mother taking a job training dogs for the NCR police and military.

Due to her upbringing, Octavia has an affinity with animals, able to come to an understanding with most four-legged creatures, and is often accompanied by a hound or two. As well as able to live comfortably off the land, and is proficient in the use of blades and long-guns, Octavia briefly served in the NCR military but was discharged a diagnosis of PTSD and behavioural issues cited in the form of her taking ears and scalps much to the dismay of her terrified Klamath native regiment.
