The Demi-Fiend/Naoki Kashima

Naoki Kashima better known as the Demi-Fiend is the protagonist of the video game Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne but also makes frequent appearance through out the Megaten series such as Digital Devil Saga: Avatar Tuner, Shin Megami Tensei: IMAGINE, and Shin Megami Tensei V as an endgame boss while in Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse, The Demi-Fiend appears as a DLC party member.

Backstory:

Naoki Kashima before becoming The Demi-Fiend was an 18 year old High school student in Japan who seemed to live fairly normal life. Until one day, when Naoki was heading to the Shinjuku Medical Center when he met a man that goes by the name Jyoji Hijiri who tells Naoki about a cult that had attacked a park the night before. Naoki thought nothing of it at first as it didn't really concern him or his friends so he left Hijiri to his own devices as Naoki continued on his way to the medical center. Once he was at the medical center the first person Naoki ran into was his friend Chiaki Tachibana who was reading a news article on the same event that Hijiri had told Naoki about as she fears the world will always get more violently and told Naoki to go find their other friend Isamu Nitta. After looking around the place a bit and searching several rooms Naoki finally finds Isamu on the third floor to which Isamu tells Naoki about his search and found the place completely deserted not even hospital staff was there. After Naoki finishes checking in with Isamu, he returns to Chiaki and she tells us more about this cult. According to the report, the cult is a group of demon worshippers who called themselves the Gaea cult and they believe in a book of prophecy called the Scripture of Miroku. The Scripture of Miroku details the end times and says that chaos will befall upon the world. Isamu would return to Chiaki and Naoki from his scouting report finding absolutely no finds and even jokes about how he even checked the Men's restroom which Chiaki blows off and continues her conversation. One point of the article made Chiaki worry about it as she read that a hospital on the east of Shinjuku is closely linked to their plan to which Isamu tries to light the mood once again with one of his famous jokes but then he states that he's weird stories about the Shinjuku Medical Center such as experimenting on the patients and how an apparent psychic had ran out the building before but there was one rumor that he had heard about the hospital being under the influence of some cult. Chiaki now being to fear maybe the three shouldn't have come there. The two have Naoki go and explore the basement of the medical center to which the rumors seemed to be right, in several rooms things like satanic symbols and massive ritual circles across the floors. But this one room was different from the others... it was dark only lit up by screens and this cylinder shaped device with a man in a chair his back facing Naoki. The man acknowledges Naoki presence and wonder who dares to disrupt his stillness but yet the man keeps talking. He told Naoki that has he looked back on the past, to the man it was evident that the history of mankind is comprised of meaningless events which this overgrowth civilization blind to it's sins... the bloodshed, the wars, and thousands of years of repeating the same mistakes again and again. Believing that the world must start over from the beginning and that prophecy that was foretold in the Scriptures of Miroku was the key to salvation and that today was the day that prophecy shall be fulfilled. The man introduce himself simply as Hikawa and sentences Naoki to his death as a massive demon appeared Hikawa, as Naoki was about to be attacked he was saved by his teacher Yuko Takao who convinces Hikawa to let Naoki go and that she'll meet him on the roof to talk. On Naoki's up to the roof he would come across a small blonde child in a suit with a older woman who looks like she was dressed for a funeral as the child point towards Naoki wondering why her little master taken interest in him and they would quickly vanish from the room leaving Naoki even more confused and frighten more than he already was. Naoki would take the elevator to the roof to meet Yuko to which she finally explains what is happening to the world. An apocalyptic event called the Conception was about to take place killing many and leaving the world in chaos but from the this chaos... a new world can be rebirthed. Lightning stuck all around eventually making this massive blue orb as it flashed wildly with energy eventually changing colors and then.... a pure white void... but a mysterious voice would call to Naoki telling him that he has no reason in his heart and that he needs to go find himself. Before Naoki even knew it he was in a black and blue void with blonde child and woman standing before him as the child whispered to the woman which couldn't be heard by Naoki which the woman tells that her little master has taken a interest in him and wants to give the frightened human a special gift. Naoki was soon on his back his mouth being held open by the woman claiming it only hurt for an instant as the blonde child held up an insect-like creature and let it go it made it's way inside's of Naoki's mouth piercing Naoki's body with it's pincer as the child explained coldly to Naoki's painful transformation that this will make him a demon. This creature is called a Magatama, it is the essence of demonic power and they provide many advantages in battle. Naoki awoke in a room in the medical center now hearing the older woman's voice stating that he has now joined the ranks of demons and that her little master is always watching him. Naoki immediately noticed his changed appearance with tribal tattoos that had a glowing aqua effect to them all around his body and horn that had grew out the nape of his neck. This is how Naoki Kashima died and how The Demi-Fiend was born.

I would go into super more detail and more onwards with story of Nocturne but it is a very great game and would want to people to experience it rather than just giving an entire run down of the entire game's plot and a lot of things in the story are effected by the player with three different endings so hard to say which one is the "canonical" since Shin Megami Tensei has many different branching timelines and multiverses within each game.

Personality:

This section is mostly from Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse since I think this is the only game Demi-Fiend has a talking role that isn't controlled by the player. Demi-Fiend is very battle hungry fighting most of the protagonists he comes across and often tells both protagonists of Shin Megami Tensei IV not to slow him down. The Demi-Fiend is very determined to whatever he puts his mind to even a dire fight he will not be afraid to die for the cause that he fighting for. In some ways, this battle hungry attitude could be a way of him masking his sadness for his world and why he fights all these different protagonists that should have similar goals to him because he wishes to test their strength to make sure their world's don't end destroyed and ruined like his. Naoki isn't just a dumb fighter type, many times in Nocturne often talks to the demons he runs across and tires to recruit them onto his side before fighting them showing mercy to his opponents first.

Moveset: All of Demi-Fiend's special moves cost either HP or MP to use and these are the moves he has and only allowed to use unless he learns a new within story but then he must replace a move for the one he just learned just to keep balanced so I'm not stuck with an overpowered Demi-Fiend:

Gaea Rage: 150 MP: The Demi-Fiend puts his arms into an X formation spreading his fingers slightly causing unstable chaotic energy to form and cause an massive explosion.

Divineshot: HP 45: This one is super basic, Demi-Fiend just extends his hands out ward firing a energy beam charging it depends on how power the blast is.

Freikugel: 60 MP: Another super basic one, The Demi-Fiend makes a finger gun and fires magic bullets.

Deadly Fury: 65 HP: The Demi-Fiend puts his hands together as if drawing a sword, forming energy into a blade before drawing it in a horizontal slash towards the enemy.

Javelin Rain: 40 HP: The Demi-Fiend charges energy into his right foot then throwing a spinning kick shooting a myriad of light rays

Chaotic Will: Nearly all of his HP and MP leaving him on 1 HP and MP: A far more powerful version of the Gaea Rage skill but mentioned before this leaves him extremely weakened and tired making his tattoo no longer glow the aqua it usually does but instead a bright bloody red indicating he's weak. He will not normally use this unless he absolutely has to.

Demi-Fiend at the start of every story will be reduced to Level 1 so he can't just do all these things off rip and has to work to acquire these skills. Again, I want a powerful character but not to the point where he ruins the story he is in.

Magatamas: There are more than one Magatama that Demi-Fiends finds and uses in combat giving him complete resistances depending on the Magatama but all these Magatama have weakness that can exploited and do heavy damage to Demi-Fiend. Similar to his skills, at the start of every story he will only be allow to have the starting Magatama which gives him no advantages at all in combat.

Demons: I like mentioned before in the personality section, The Demi-Fiend can summon demons to aid him in battle. Now, normally The Demi-Fiend can summon up to three demons but I'm limiting him to only one as I find that to best so I don't have to play like four different characters at once. Like the Magatamas and skills, I am only giving him the starting demon which is Pixie and she'll only have low-level healing spells at first the rest he to has pick up as he goes along.

Annnd that's about it for the Demi-Fiend, if you made it this far then you're amazing and thank you so much for reading about me rambling about this character that no one barely knows about!
