He usually never used this for anything else than getting a few things for a lesser amount in shops and maybe getting others to do a few things he would enjoy.. *hint hint* but that's about it. He had no idea how he was born with this which explains him keeping it a secret from others. The only downfall is that he isn't really able to hypnotize those he cares for. As hard as he could try, he would never be able to hypnotize a dear one.
