**Background**

In the industrial world the Stephenson family ranks high in the hierarchy of nobles, their wealth growing by the day through a series of calculated and well placed investments into railroad transportation and the building of said railroads. Edward was born into this family too, as the only son amongst two younger sisters and was raised to one day become to leader and face of this wealthy family.
However, Edward wanted no part of this business. The more his father tried to push him, the more he retaliated and dreamed of one day pursuing his real dreams: dreams of becoming a man of hope and justice, like the cowboys of the wild west he read about in the many novels he managed to hide from his father. Clinton Stephenson however despised this "childish" dream of his son. He made him study mathematics and the past of their family to learn and be the perfect heir to his throne. Edward's father was cold and calculated, never wanting nor accepting failure as an outcome and so he forbid Edward from anything that was not related to his studies, which just made him all the more rebellious. Over the years, the two grew apart, the back and forth between his father trying to control his life and Edward's relentless protests leading them to become distant and cold to each other.
This hostility reached its peak when Edward became 20, and to further grow their power, Clinton Stephenson decided to force his son into marriage with a much older woman, whom he had only met for a brief period, in which they visited. Edward confronted his father after the guests had left, which then resulted in their biggest fight yet, their yelling breaking the peace of the mansion for hours on end. In the end Edward had enough. He decided that this wasn't the life he wanted to live, chained to his father who would leave him in an office to rot, for all he cared. His mother and sisters tried to talk to him, tried to reason that they can figure it out, his father was yelling, but it went past Edward's ears like a summer breeze as he made his way through the front door...

" [...]
Edward "the Crow" Stephenson. The name of a lawman that many have heard, some even fear. He has uncovered many criminals in his 10 years of service, and rumors tell that he too is a metal tapper, although there is no official or reliable source that can confirm that.
His fitting nickname was given to him by the public, referring to his dark clothing and hair. Stephenson's activities began in 1832, when a family hired him to track down and kill a criminal by the nickname of "Undead Frank". The mission was a complete failure, almost resulting in the death of the young lawman, who was just 23 at the time, although we do not have any more detail about the events. When asked about the event, Mr. Stephenson refused to elaborate on the matter, but from the words of an anonymous friend of his "He was overconfident and stupid, as many rookies were. He's lucky to even be alive".
His first larger case that caught the attention of the public was when he uncovered a large smuggling operation of the Harrison Railroad Company, that transported illegal holding-metals across the country. He went on to solve many more cases, including, but not limited to the robberies of the Knox Brothers, the disappearance of wagons all across the country and most famously, the Goldberg incident..."
