June 22, 2028.

It's been just over a month since the virus began to spread. Most are either dead or infected. The rest are survivors. Struggling to stay alive as society continues to collapse and the government is no more. The leading research team were exposed to the virus recently and have since become infected and torn one another apart, leaving the laboratory a bloody mess, their research, and test subjects remaining locked away within n the facility.

It's . . . It's bad. . .Anybody who comes into direct skin to skin contact with the infected, contract the virus themselves. They go insane and become violent. It's almost like a zombie apocalypse but this is so much worse. These are still living people. They are intelligent and keen and strong and they still feel pain and emotions. I've watched them, seen how they act. They are desperate. And afraid. I think that's why they kill. It's what they do. They attack and kill any living thing they see. It's aweful.

Plot: basically a deadly virus has spread to most of the population. It spreads via direct skin to skin contact and within 3 days of getting infected the victim will show symptoms such as: dizziness, fatigue, agitation, irritability, sensitivity to loud sounds and chronic headaches. Victims loose control of their ability to refine emotions and become extremely paranoid, violent and agressive. The infected try to kill all living things and won't stop until they die themselves. Between one and two weeks after becoming ng infected the victims become increasingly tired and often start to refuse food and water and eventually will become too weak to move at all as the virus eats away at their brain. Most die within 3 weeks of getting infected. There is currently no cure though a few teams are working on it. That's it. Just try to survive.

It was getting dark, the last few rays of sunlight dying off as the sun sank below the horizon leaving the land in shadow, lit only by distant fires and the moon's soft, uneasy white glow. The lab was a large, three story building and the entire third floor was lined with row after row of kennel like cages, spaces only about six by four feet, each with thick bullet proof glass walls and a passcode based lock to keep the door firmly shut. Trapping hundreds of test subjects. Nearly all of which were dead or dying. All of them were infected. A number tattooed on their inner right wrist and the right side of their neck. They had been used to work towards a cure. But once the virus took over the lab, the white coats had all killed one another. And so now the remaining test subjects had been trapped without food or water or any sort of care for nearly a week.

The fowl scent of death hung thick in the air and the rooms to either side of Clarissa contained only rotting corpses. Clary herself partially lay down as she leaned against the glass wall, her head down, messy, tangled hair curling around her face and clinging to her pale almost skin almost a sickly grey color, her fragile frame curled in on itself as she lay unmoving aside from the rise and fall of her chest with labored breaths. Being dehydrated, half starved and stuck in a small, filthy area with very little ventilation had taken it's toll on her. But even as she was, even though she wouldn't last much longer like this. She sang. In a broken, raspy voice she sang a soft melody. A child's lullaby.

The others that were still alive snarled and scratched at the glass attempting to get to the survivor. But when the male stopped in front of Clary and put his hand to the glass she glanced up, her brown eyes dull and her smile warm. She lifted a hand and put it up to the glass as well, continuing to sing. It was a song and it resting easy and knowing that you're safe. It was promise that those who heard it would wake up tomorrow and things would get better. But she stopped as she went into a coughing fit, her breathing still labored.

On each door a clip board with the subject's files hung. Some neatly in order, other strewn about the floor. Clarissa's files were still there, only one or two papers missing. It had her number and age and status written on it. And where all the others said infected. Hers read 'carrier.' there were several notes and pages of information about her. Her reactions and the tests run on her. She had the virus. But she was immune to it. She was the first patient. The number on her file and on her skin was 001.

She didn't move or try to take the food. Doing much of anything was difficult and by the time the male returned Clarissa could barely even keep her eyes open. Her head lolled to the side and she was shivering though a thin sheen of sweat clung to her skin. She was feverish, her skin warm to the touch. But still she murmured the next few words of the song her smile having yet to fade.

Clary was light and easy to carry. She melted against him, not flinching or showing any hesitation to be near him. She let out a slow breath and shakily took the bag, she took a bite of apple and chewed it slowly, savoring the flavor and the juice on her dry tongue. She ate the apples as soul carried her though she didn't take the beef jerky, after a few minutes she fell asleep against him. Her heart was still beating steadily and she was breathing with mild troubles, she wouldn't die but she was weak and in rough shape.
