The origin of his being: Shine is basically the dark to all light. So Yang against Ying, Moon against Sun, Eb against Flow. He was created before there was light (because when there isn't any light, there is darkness), but only got awoken when light was formed (equivalent of god basically). Shine and Shine (Shi-ne and (sun)Shine) quickly became friend and combined their powers to expand the universe, eventually settling on a star they created and making some companions on a random rock. Shine went down to live with them and his ladyfriend stayed up to keep the place running. He has seen and heard everything, because walls have eyes and ears (at least the shadows on them do) and he is capable of pretty much anything. But he has standards of his own and does not like to be able to do everything and anything, since you can't have fun that way. Shine has a sword of pure darkness, Nightshade, and Shine has a sword of pure light, Morningsun. The way to kill either of them is with the power of their opposites. They won't really die, but they'll be out for an age or ten (like...3000 years).
