Overview of Wraith.

Work in progress. This is a temporary profile to lay out the basics of this character. Expect updates soon.

A proud barbarian born in the village of Marcella. Named “Insidious Wraith” for his ability to generate poisons (and the horrid means by which he acquired such an ability) and his intimidating means of combat via swords, knives, paralysis, and poison mists.

Stolen from his home by Ulig the Damned, a barbarian warlord, both of Wraith’s parents were murdered and he was placed into a life of indentured servitude, loaned out to castles as a ditcher. He learned combat for over two decades in Ulig’s Essined Tribe before finally escaping, killing Ulig’s men and hacking his way to freedom. Returning home, he found the village of Marcella burned to the ground. He has sworn revenge on Ulig and will slay anyone who allies with him.

Currently operates as a junker—a collector of scrap metals, old weapons, and more. While he does run an antique shop in the ruins of Marcella—which he one day hopes to rebuild—he is often nomadic, moving to land to land and carrying his business with him.

Premise of Character: Wraith is a tribute to the low fantasy genre and pulp characters from the 30s and 40s. He is a celebration of the works of Robert E. Howard (Conan, Kull), Edgar Rice Burroughs (John Carter, Dejah Thoris), and more. He is a barbarian at his core; a character meant for grand adventures.

Name: Wraith the Insidious

Alias: Insidious Wraith; Venomous Wraith

Age: 41

Alignment: Neutral / Principled.

Body Type: Muscular. Built like a middleweight-class boxer. Wraith is in extremely good shape and exercises daily. Discolored marks over his skin from all the fire ants that have bitten him.

Height: 6’1”

Weight: 194 lbs.

Place of birth: Marcella, a village occupied by a once-nomadic barbarian tribe.

Occupation: Wraith is a junker who collects discarded scrap and junk of all kinds. He runs an antique shop. In the back yard of the shop is the modern equivalent of a wrecking yard, or junkyard.

This process alone hints at his diverse skill set:

Acquisition: Wraith will pay people for used weapons, swords, shields, armor, scrap metal, gardening tools, or broken-down transports such as rickshaws and carriages. He often asks customers to bring the items directly to his shop, but may make trips to pick the items up himself.

Most often, he acquires items through exploration. As a serf, he has spent time mining before, so he is comfortable in caves, mines, and in tunnels, often looking for extraordinary weapons or equipment that can be sold in his shop. He will collect items by water as well and is willing to jump into lakes and trespass into enemy territory to get his wares.

Sorting: Wraith has an eagle eye. He is moderately skilled at appraising jewelry, but an excellent appraiser of weapons and equipment. He takes daily inventory on all items sold and assesses each for its resale value. From there, some items (such as swords and shields) he may personally repair; other items will be re-sold, or further broken down for parts.

Income: He earns income by re-selling individual items to: other characters; constables looking for parts to expand their castles for their lords and ladies; construction agencies in need of scrap metal or building parts for assembly; knights and warriors; blacksmiths looking to expand their inventory, and more.

Ditcher – Wraith previously earned a living as a laborer who dug castle moats and foundations. This comes from his upbringing as a serf.

Hired Sword (Guard) – He is sometimes hired as a bodyguard by royal figures and merchants to accompany them through town. This is not his preference; he is a junker by trade.

Equipment: Wraith is a human packrat and usually carries lots of equipment on him at all times, including:

- Plain Leather Armor,

- A bedroll,

- Trail Rations (3 days),

- Hooded Lantern,

- Silk Rope (approx. 50 ft.),

- Flint and Tinder,

- A pickaxe,

- And Waterskins (at least two at all times).

Weapon Arsenal: Wraith carries various weapons with him:

- Flamberge, a worn and partially damaged greatsword (see below),

- Throwing daggers,

- Toe-spiked boots,

- And folding knives.

Flamberge: Flamberge is a two-handed, 7 lb. greatsword with a very long and wavy characteristic to its blade. The sword is useful for drawing blood from flesh and is sharp as a scythe. Is additionally useful to Wraith for poison inducement (see “Powers” section).

Note: Any bloodletting with this weapon means the opponent is susceptible to infection by poison, as Wraith’s weapon is almost always coated in toxic substance.

Vibrating Blade: When parrying with such Flamberge, unpleasant vibrations may be transmitted into his opponent’s blade. These vibrations will cause the blades to slow contact with each other because of additional friction given in the encounter.

Style of Combat: Barbarian swordsmanship. Despite their reputation for brawling, barbarians are highly-trained swords-wielders, capable of dueling with expert knights and samurai alike. Their fighting style is savage. Wraith is capable of fighting dozens of skilled opponents at a time.

Preferred Weapon: Flamberge. (See “Equipment” section.)

Powers:

Poison Generation and Manipulation: Wraith can create, shape and manipulate poisons and poisonous substances. His poisons are so strong as to affect the regenerative properties of The Hulk himself.

He can manipulate poisons for a number of purposes:

• Absorption – He is able to remove the effects of poisons from others.

• Infection – He can infect others with toxic and lethal poisons.

• Necrosis Inducement – Can induce necrosis, or premature cell death, in opponents, causing flesh to rapidly decay.

• Miasma Emission – Generates a purple cloud or mist of poison from the mouth.

• Pain Inducement – Can secrete non-lethal poisons capable of inflicting agonizing pain on an opponent if ingested, infected, or, in some cases, through external skin contact.

• Paralysis Inducement - Can secrete non-lethal poisons capable of shutting down motor functions and complete physical movement if ingested, infected, or, in some cases, through external skin contact. This can last a maximum of ten minutes and varies depending on the affected person.

• Death Inducement – He may so infect a person’s bloodstream with toxic substances that it proves lethal.

Poison Immunity: Wraith’s body is so used to poisons running within his bloodstream that he is immune to all effects of poisons, even those created through mystical means.
