Fantasy roleplay plots

My favorite genre! So here are my fantasy plot ideas.

------------------------------

Everyone in the land knows of Inera. Her battle with the great demon Azrath has become stuff of legends. Centuries ago Azrath wreaked havoc on the land. War, death and misery were all people knew. United under one king, humans and other creatures tried together to vanquish this evil but nothing worked. Not until Inera appeared. An unknown hero risen from obscurity. The fight lasted for three days and by the end, Inera managed to banish Azrath from this realm. Unfortunately she could tell nobody how she actually did this, as she kicked the bucket immediately after, exhausted by her efforts. But that didn’t matter, since Azrath was gone. Right?

Turns out Azrath’s followers were more loyal than anyone could have ever imagined. For centuries after their master’s defeat, they gathered their forces, grew their numbers and schemed to bring their master back. Now they have actually done it. Azrath is yet weak, a mere shadow of his former self but his powers are growing and time is running out. As Inera is still the only one who knows how to be rid of the menace, they need to speak to her urgently. But with the slight issue of her being dead, only a summoner can talk to her now. They are rare but the king manages to track one down. Things are never quite that easy though. With a soul this ancient, the summoner needs something of Inera’s, preferably remains, to contact her. Over the ages the kingdom has changed and cities have moved. Inera’s tomb now lies quite far away from the capitol.

It is decided the summoner needs a companion. It’s thought that two people traveling together have the advantage of speed and stealth. That’s when the king’s attention turns to the next lucky, or perhaps unlucky, victim: your character. He makes an offer that can’t be refused. And so they have a noble quest. A perilous journey begins with the fate of the kingdom on their shoulders and the ever-growing threat of Azrath’s minions lurking all over the kingdom.

(I have a character for the summoner ready. Yours can be whatever you wish, the only condition really is that it should make sense for them to get picked for something like this)

A and B were best friends/childhood sweethearts. But that was a long time ago. Due to differences in status they became separated. And since then their lives have gone in drastically different directions. A has become a pirate (this can also be a sort of an airship), making a fearsome reputation for themselves. Living life the way they please, more often than not bringing terror to others in the process. B on the other hand has led a life of luxury as the child of an important noble. Even more yet, they have become the official ward of the current ruler who has no children of their own.

The land A and B are both from is relatively small with a small army. But what it does have is good natural resources. Because of this it’s on the constant target list of bigger countries looking to cash in on their fortune. So when a bigger, stronger land proposes a deal; some of their resources in exchange for protection, the ruler is quick to agree. B is arranged to be a symbol of the deal as well and is set to marry the heir of their new ally.

A sees an opportunity in this. With dreams of great ransom money being paid for B’s return from both their home and their new rich ally, they arrange the kidnapping of B. But shortly after their plan succeeds, A is surprised to notice that B is none other than their childhood friend. B however doesn’t make this connection straight away, since A has changed so much. A decides to take them away on their ship, determined to ignore this connection they have. But that might be more difficult than they initially thought. Adding to the mess, B’s guardians and new fiancé are sure to follow closely behind.

(Here I have a strong preference for the role of B)

This is a bit of an out there idea for a fantasy romance but it’s something I think could be interesting to try. It's a bit of a red string of fate type plot.

The roleplay would begin with two characters that are destined to love each other. But they are also destined to die. They meet, fall in love and eventually lose their lives. Preferably in some epic way, be it in a war or a battle with some kind of monster or whatever else we can think of, this can be discussed and decided together. If you’ve ever wanted to write a tragic, angsty love story, this part is it! We can write this part for as long as we feel like it.

The story can of course be left there if you’re really in the mood for some tragedy, but my idea continues. A long time later both characters have been reincarnated. The world is different now, they have different lives. They meet again, drawn together by their connection that reaches beyond one life. At first they don’t remember each other but slowly the memories start to come back. Could this lifetime give them another chance?

Two kingdoms exist side by side but are very different from each other. They haven’t always gotten along and there’s a history of bad blood and even occasional war between the two. The citizens from each kingdom barely interact with people from the other kingdom and because of this rumours run wild. Things have been like so for well over a hundred years.

However things are about to change. A third kingdom has emerged, grown recently larger because of its hostile takeover of another country. This kingdom is eager to expand even more and has set its sights on these two kingdoms. They sense the danger and decide that it is time to bury their differences and unite against a common enemy. Characters A and B are both from the royal family of their respective kingdoms. It has been decided that the two shall marry to strengthen this new alliance.

Can the two learn to work together through their differences with a threat of looming was over them? Could love blossom? Or will they prove to be all too different?

A is royalty and has lived a relatively sheltered life so far. Now they are having the worst time they have ever had: they have been kidnapped and are held hostage. Perhaps it was for money, perhaps there are political reasons behind it. Whatever the case, the situation looks bleak.
B on the other hand is a bit of a scoundrel. They haven’t had the easiest life. They have always lived outside of the rules, doing whatever they had to in order to survive.

B stumbles upon A and at first has no interest getting involved. Not their problem. But then A makes a tempting preposition. Saving the king’s child could bring with it unimaginable rewards. It could be B’s ticket out of constant struggle. With the king’s favor on their side, it could be a life of luxury from then onward instead. The risks are high but the opportunity proves too tempting to resist. They break A out and the two take off on their escape. It’s a perilous journey back with A’s kidnappers on their trail and unknown dangers ahead. Could feelings between the two make the situation even more complicated?

(Somewhat of a preference for A)

The idea is a very traditional fantasy thing. Character A and B are both adventurers or mercenaries, whatever label you want to put on there. But they belong to different guilds. And these guilds are bitter rivals, they hate each other's guts. Always trying to one up each other as well as steal jobs and such from the other. It so happens both guilds send members into the same dungeon located in a labyrinthian cave system, said to have very dangerous enemies but also treasure well worth the risk. As they're bickering, as usual, there's a sudden enemy attack and a very catastrophic cave in. Once the dust settles, A and B find themselves stranded together, separated from their friends. They have to find their way through together now, despite their differences, as going alone will mean almost certain death.

A bit similar to the previous idea.
The land of Resmia is rich with history and filled with old ruins and burial sites. Because of this there are a fairly large number of people interested in this and making a living related to the ruins. There are grave robbers, artifact dealers, scholars trying to document the history, warriors paid to guard the scholars. They all come together in a race to get to new and undiscovered riches and locations first.

In recent years an explorer and artifact dealer known as the Fox among the general public has emerged. Wild rumors spread about her, saying that she has deadly magic and has somehow struck a deal with spirits to help her find all the treasure first. Because that is somehow what she does. She finds things that nobody else does and since nobody knows how she does it, the rumors began to spread.

The newest discovered site is a small underground city, filled with winding passages that almost make it into a labyrinth. Fox is naturally there to collect her bounty, but she isn’t alone. Many others have come as word of the city has spread, hoping to find something valuable. This is where your character comes in. They can be absolutely anyone: a scholar, a grave robber, random person who wandered there? Whatever you would like.

A race begins to find treasure. But what nobody expected is that the city is guarded by terrible creatures. Your character, whoever they may be, runs into Fox. But she isn’t at all what the rumors say. Not a terrifying warrior with unearthly powers. Just a cheerful little redhead with an interesting ability, an ability that can hopefully get them out of the city alive.

(So yeah I have a character for Fox, yours can be whatever you choose.)

>>>

The rumors of the magnificent treasure lord Bryce keeps locked away and hidden in his enormous castle have spread far. Nobody knows exactly what the treasure is since nobody has ever made it far enough to see. Lord Bryce is a paranoid man with the means to pay for it.
A has been convinced that the treasure is real and they decide to do what nobody else has been able to; to find out what it is or even possibly take it.
Against all odds A succeeds. But what they find isn’t at all what they expected. The treasure… is a person.

B has been locked away in Bryce’s ridiculously secure treasure room for longer than they have been able to keep track for, with little hope of ever getting out. Chained to the wall they wait day after day. When A one night appears, B of course pleads them to take them away. A is confused but agrees to free B. Was the treasure just a sick man’s secret, twisted idea of pleasure?
But when A gets seriously injured in their escape and B heals them against all odds, the true nature of the treasure is revealed. A way to cheat death. Something Lord Bryce would do anything to get back. And should anyone find out, the Lord wouldn’t be the only one after this treasure.

(In this I have a character planned for B.)
